Copyeditor

Diversified Communications is growing and we are looking for a skilled Copyeditor to join our team! The Copyeditor is responsible for ensuring quality and consistency in daily news coverage, special projects, and website content for SeafoodSource.com. The Copyeditor will work closely with Editorial Staff in a fast-paced working environment, vetting daily news stories and other written content for grammar, in-house style, and accuracy. Responsibilities also include posting content and web-related tasks, collaborating with Executive Editor in style guide management, and reviewing special reports and projects on an ad-hoc basis.

Essential Functions:

• Copyedit original news articles and other content on deadline for SeafoodSource.com and the SeafoodSource e-newsletter, using Associate Press and in-house style guide. Content is created by both Editorial Staff and freelance contributors.
• Work with Editorial Staff on website management, including publishing stories and ensuring all site pages meet SeafoodSource.com style and quality standards.
• Collaborate with Executive Editor in management of in-house style guide, including regular updates and communicating changes with team members.
• Copyedit all special projects, including e-books, show guides, multimedia projects, and larger special reports.
• Develop expertise in the sector through independent research, networking, and staying abreast of industry news, as it pertains to ensuring SeafoodSource.com meets industry style standards.
• Ability to work independently and, occasionally, remotely.

Skills & Qualifications:

Knowledge: Bachelor's degree required in copyediting, journalism, English, communications, or a similarly relevant field of study. Experience copyediting for a journalistic enterprise, and particularly for a B2B publication, is highly preferred.

Skills: Must be comfortable copyediting using in-house style guide and Associated Press style. Familiarity using web-based content management systems preferred. Experience with PC applications and the Microsoft Office suite preferred.

Abilities: Must be eager to work as a full-time, independent copyeditor in a journalism environment. Must be highly organized and deadline driven, with the ability to handle multiple tasks at once with short turnaround time. Ability to collaborate with a small but dedicated team producing both daily news and long-term projects is absolutely necessary.
