The Role:

Rakuten Kobo Inc. is looking for a Copywriter to join our Creative Services team. Our internal agency is a group of very talented, highly creative people who live and breathe big ideas and excel at doing great work.

Reporting to the Copy Lead, the Copywriter plays a vital role in crafting relevant communications and copy across all media. They will work closely with other members of the Creative Services team and key stakeholders to create powerful brand messaging.

The Person:

Understands relevancy:

  • Can interpret a brief and creative direction to write persuasive copy for the identified target.
  • Familiarizes themself with a client’s products and offerings, target audience and competitor activities in the market to offer the most relevant, memorable creative.
  • Stays on top of nuances and what’s trending in different channels (like social).

Is a skilled copywriter:

  • Knows how and when to balance promotional and conversational language, whether he/she is working on an onboarding email, retail sell sheet or sales promotion.
  • Follows brand language guidelines, maintains a consistent voice and local relevance, and adheres to word counts when necessary.

Has a collaborative spirit:

  • Works with Graphic Designer partners and production team members to collaborate on the strongest, most viable concepts.
  • Liaises with stakeholders, like PR/Communications and Digital Marketing, to best answer their marketing needs.

Pays attention to detail:

  • Has the skill and ability to edit their own work and produce error-free content.

The Skillset:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in marketing, communications and/or content creation.
  • Proven work experience producing copy for digital, social, editorial, and some broadcast.
  • Portfolio of completed copy projects.
  • Proficient in with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Exceptional skill with nuances of social media writing, including the use of hashtags and emojis.
  • CRM experience including familiarity with subject lines.
  • Some understanding of SEO concepts.
  • Focused and detail-oriented with strong organizational and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and collaborate with a team.
  • Ability to self-manage and prioritize, multi-tasking on a day-to-day basis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Experience working on a global brand.
  • Experience with messaging for subscriptions.
  • Paid social and digital acquisition experience.
  • Scriptwriting experience.
  • Experience with ClickUp, Google Sheets, Box, and Figma.
  • Agency experience.
  • Experience and understanding of mass campaign touchpoints.
