Job Description
Adcetera is an independent advertising, marketing, and media agency headquartered in Houston, TX. Our client roster ranges from Fortune 50 organizations everyone's heard of, to startups nobody's heard of (yet). And the industries we serve run the gamut from upstream energy to craft beer, with a bunch of tangents in between.
We're looking for a full-time copywriter for our Midtown Houston HQ. You should be obsessed with writing, you should be curious about everything, and you should bring everything you read, love, watch, and argue about to your work: your depth will make your writing better, and your ideas stronger.
You should understand and enjoy social media (even when it's a dumpster fire). You should be ready to feed digital media plans with audience-focused language. You should be ready to write highfalutin' and down-home. You should have the persistence of a journalist and the soul of an artist, and you should find inspiration in just about anything.
Sound like a unicorn? We've got a few, and we want more.
Responsibilities (because they say we have to list things that are obvious)
- Writing: Research topics, develop content ideas, and write marketing and advertising copy that makes clients rejoice and businesses succeed.
- Creative ideation: Our studio's got its hands in just about everything, and you'll be in the mix, with designers, animators, filmmakers, interactive developers and some others we can't quite figure out.
- Digital proficiency: Is there any other kind? Work with Media, Strategy, and Interactive teams to develop digital ad copy, interactive app copy, and web copy. You should know SEO. If you don't, you will.
- Brand adherence: We love them. We create them. We also abide by them. You'll learn our clients' brands inside and out - including their prescribed guidelines, styles, and preferences.
- Active participation: No wallflowers. Ask questions, offer ideas, share your knowledge and opinions. Armwrassle.
- TBD: Everything's always changing. You'll need to keep changing, too
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree in advertising, journalism, communications, or similar.
- Experience: 3-5 years of professional writing experience, preferably in an agency setting. Proven ability to write in a variety of formats with meticulous attention to spelling, grammar, punctuation, and style. Bloodthirsty ability to proof and edit copy for errors is an absolute must.
- Creativity: Exceptional ability to collaborate creatively and influence fresh, unconventional thinking.
- Knowledge: Fluency with Windows PCs and Microsoft Office applications required. Familiarity with major style manuals including but not limited to The Associated Press Stylebook, The Chicago Manual of Style, and The Elements of Style by Strunk & White. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Confluence, WordPress, and Drupal is a plus. You know Hootsuite? Google Ads? Nice. You know how to use AI for good, rather than evil? Be ready to explain it to us.
- Self-motivation: Highly driven, proactive, organized, strategic, flexible critical thinker, able to adapt and thrive in fast-paced environments.
- Office-based, mostly: We're collaborators. Employees are encouraged to work from home one day per week, but are expected in the office the remaining four.
Benefits• Competitive salary and benefits including discretionary bonus plan, full employee health coverage, generous paid time off policy, and Internal promotion strategy• Creative, fun-loving, team-based culture • Casual environments including lounge areas, snacks, happy hours, and sometimes dogs.
