Corporate Controller 

Reports To: 

Chief Accounting Officer 

The Job: 

We are looking for an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Corporate Controller. The ideal candidate is someone who inspires a quickly growing accounting team, and also embraces ambiguity and loves solving problems. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the Corporate Controller will be responsible for defining and executing the accounting operation of the company. They will work closely with the SEC Reporting and Technical Accounting teams, as well as with the FP&A, Treasury, Tax, and Strategy leaders on the CFO’s team. This candidate will also coordinate to enhance and maintain accounting reporting practices, internal controls, and adherence to US GAAP and SOX requirements, while also possess strong management and team leadership competencies.   

Our Company will take a leading role in establishing new GAAP in the nascent industry of cryptocurrency and digital assets. The Corporate Controller will play an instrumental part in developing and establishing Core Scientific’s leadership position in the industry. 

Responsibilities: 

• Manages the accounting teams who are responsible for operational accounting, billing, payments, and payroll 
• Recruits and hires accounting and financial leaders reporting to the Controller role and provides regular performance feedback
• Coordinates training programs for accounting personnel 
• Owns internal controls/SOX program and establishes guidelines for accounting transactions and leads engagement with the Internal Audit team 
• Oversees payroll and billing responsibilities   
• Oversees employee travel and expense program   
• Oversees the accounting close process and ensures that the reported results comply with GAAP and SEC requirements 
• Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations; coordinates with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual financial statement audit  
• Documents processes and ensures strong operational accounting practices, compliance with GAAP and SOX requirements, including implementing any changes 
• Presents recommendations to management on short-and long-term accounting priorities 
• Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned  

Required Qualifications: 

• CPA  
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related discipline  
• 15+ years of progressive experience 
• Big 4 or large public accounting experience, developing an accounting function adjacent to a large transaction, and/or leading large publicly traded company accounting team 
• Substantial experience in and working knowledge of authoritative US GAAP 
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and collaborative skills  

Preferred Qualifications: 

• The successful candidate will have progressively increasing responsibility over his/her career and a proven track record establishing and maintaining relationships with senior-level executives 
• Understanding of finance, strategic planning, forecasting, accounting principles and practices, management principles, and preferred business practices 
• Entrepreneurial and comfortable with ambiguous and change-led environments; self-confident with an authentic style that gravitates to championing change 
• Collaborative and encourages diversity of thought and experience
