Bevi is on a mission to disrupt the beverage supply chain and replace single-use water bottles with smart water machines. Thousands of companies use Bevi to sustainably provide their employees with pure, sparkling, and flavored water at work. As the market leader in IoT-enabled beverage machines, we’ve raised over $160M in venture capital and we’re doubling year over year. In addition to maintaining hypergrowth with our current product line, Bevi is heavily investing in new product development.

Bevi is seeking an in-house Corporate Counsel to write and negotiate contracts, institute and manage legal policies, and own external counsel relationships. This is a multifaceted position, with responsibilities ranging from high-level strategy, to detailed administrative and process work. Responsibilities will range from negotiating multi-million dollar distribution agreements, to making quick edits to SOW’s. The role reports to our VP Finance, and will closely collaborate with all members of our Executive team.

This is the first full-time Legal role in Bevi’s history, and we are seeking an entrepreneurial attorney to help us set up the Legal function for scale.

Responsibilities

• Create and oversee legal policies and processes. Operationalize policies, templates, and workflows to allow business teams to move quickly, while addressing key risks.
• Draft and negotiate contracts with customers, distributors, suppliers, and other vendors.
• Manage relationships with external law firms for transactions, employment, intellectual property, and compliance.
• Set up and maintain a formal contract management system, keeping up-to-date records of expiration dates and any key terms we need to track.
• Own the legal budget, and decide when to handle work in-house, vs. when to triage work to external partners.
• Partner with our Sales, Operations, Product, Engineering, Finance, and People teams to advise on business, legal, and regulatory issues. Coach the team to improve their knowledge and intuition on contracts and other legal matters.
• Research the IP and regulatory landscapes for Bevi’s current and future products, and share insights with the team.

Requirements

• JD from an accredited law school.
• Minimum of 4 years of corporate transactional experience, preferably at a top law firm and/or corporate legal department.
• Experience independently drafting and negotiating contracts to completion.
• Strong business acumen and practical judgment, with the ability to thoughtfully balance legal and business priorities.
• Experience in an entrepreneurial / high-growth start-up environment is a plus.
• A desire to learn and teach. Experience effectively communicating and working with business team members who are not accustomed to legal language or working with attorneys.
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to independently set goals and structure plans to achieve them.
• Willingness to get into the weeds and understand the details of how our products and business processes work.
• A “no task is too small” attitude.
