As Corporate Counsel, you will support a variety of the company’s legal needs and provide counsel on the associated risks. You will work with a team of closely integrated corporate attorneys, in-house legal professionals, and law clerks on corporate governance, contract drafting and negotiation, intellectual property protection, employment law, outside counsel and litigation support, and general advisement of business leaders on a variety of topics. You will represent the largest natural gas marketer in the Southeast within a company culture that promotes putting people first and being a fuel for good.

A successful candidate for this role is both a strong critical thinker and skilled transactional attorney, as well as agile in collaborating on a variety of business and legal needs.  You are an active member in good standing with either the Georgia or Florida bar association and have some experience within the energy industry and an interest to learn more.  You are motivated by collaborating with others and providing solutions.


Other stuff we like:

  • Juris Doctorate from an American Bar Association approved law school
  • 2 to 3 years work experience in corporate law or energy industry
  • Knowledge of contract law, corporate law, and regulatory compliance
  • Strong business acumen, focus, and attention to detail in the management of complex and varied business operations and interpersonal interactions
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills
  • Strong interest in performing a legal generalist function and continuing to learn and develop new skills and legal knowledge
  • Ability to work well with others and to hold self and others accountable within a self-managed team

More details on what you would be responsible for:

  • Preparing, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, including requests for proposals, master service agreements and other vendor contracts, guarantees and letters of credit, contracts for the sale of natural gas, wholesale purchase and sale agreements for natural gas, confidentiality agreements, and other legal documents
  • Consulting with management, advisors, tax experts, accountants and marketing staff to provide accurate, relevant and timely advice on a variety of legal topics that relate to the general corporate business, the energy industry, and the company’s products and services
  • Establish and carry out best practices for the legal protection of intellectual property rights
  • Liaison with external counsel on specialized matters and potential litigation impacting the company
  • Review and consult on collections suits, appearing in court and drafting filings as needed
  • Advising on employment matters and participating in investigations
  • Designing and delivering legal training to the business
  • Staying up to date with changes to legislation, particularly in relation to laws, rules and regulations that directly affect our business and specific industry.
  • Provide legal research, consultation, support, and liaison with internal clients on ad hoc matters and special projects
  • Contribute to Legal department projects to establish protections and controls around mitigating risks as well as projects to improve legal operations
  • May supervise or provide oversight of legal interns
