JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Corporate Strategy Manager, you will partner with the leadership team to shape the strategic direction of UL Solutions Supply Chain Customer Operating Unit.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This role is hybrid to a UL Location on-site 3 days a week
Provide deep market and competitive insights:
  • Collect, analyze and disseminate ongoing market and competitor intelligence and insights.
  • Develop deep market analysis and understanding including market size estimates, growth rate estimates, demand drivers, competitive landscape mapping, types of customers who buy into the market and why, commercial dynamics, etc.
  • Develop deep competitor analysis and understanding including revenue estimates, types of solutions offered, key strengths and weaknesses, acquisition and partnership activity, key newcomers, expansion strategies, new hires, etc.
  • Based on research, formulate business options and strategic recommendations (why does intelligence matter, why is it important to the business, what should the business do to counter any threats or take advantage of opportunities).
  • Conduct both primary and secondary research.

Lead creation of business unit growth strategies and coordination of all global strategic planning activities
  • Own, plan and coordinate the creation of long-term growth strategies including opportunities for global expansion, regional expansion, capability expansion, cross-sell, up-sell and go-to-market improvements, etc. Consider build, buy and partnership options.
  • Lead and coordinate the annual Long Range Planning strategy process including project managing, completing template deliverables, providing information inputs and strategic recommendations.
  • Lead and manage the strategy execution planning process (leveraging the Balanced Scorecard framework) across business unit including facilitating creation of execution plans for key strategic initiatives, defining metrics of success and driving a regular cadence of execution and strategy reviews with senior Leadership.
  • Support periodic reporting and communications of growth strategies, business unit performance, key initiatives and market and competitor updates within business unit, across UL, to senior Leadership and to external market analysts.
  • Develop close relationships and work across business-unit, region, cross-functionally and in frequent contact with senior Leadership to drive alignment and solve complex challenges.

Support development and execution of acquisition and partnership strategies:
  • Support identification of inorganic growth focus areas where acquisitions and partnerships can help to complement the current business-unit portfolio and customer base.
  • Identify, recommend, analyze the strategic fit of and help evaluate potential acquisition and partnership targets.
  • Help conduct customer interviews and document insights to validate if business-unit M&A ambitions are aligned with customer needs. Understand ideal target customer and commercial opportunity around acquisition priorities.
  • Work across business-unit, region, cross-functionally and in frequent contact with senior Leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS
• University degree (MBA or pre-MBA) plus minimum 8 years of professional experience to include (3) years in a management / strategy consultancy or an in-house corporate development / strategy role.• Willingness to 'go deep' to understand markets and competitors leveraging a range of sources.• Desire to work in a continuous learning environment touching on a broad range of markets, topics, competitors and multiple businesses (leverage a learn it all and growth mindset approach).• Enjoy solving complex problems and exploring the big picture while thinking through potential strategic scenarios, benefits, pros and cons of each path.• Able to take work and run own time with limited oversight to successful completion.• Strong PowerPoint, written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present ideas in a structured and clear way.• Experience with enterprise software / SaaS business models focused on supply chain or product stewardship preferred.• Ability to effectively coordinate multiple jobs and projects simultaneously.• Ability to work successfully across business-unit, region, cross-functionally and in frequent contact with senior Leadership a must.
