Cost Accountant

Phifer Incorporated currently has an opening at our Corporate Office in Tuscaloosa, AL for a Cost Accountant. This position is responsible for examining and evaluation Cost Accounting data. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years' cost accounting experience using SAP, advanced Excel knowledge and strong analytical skills.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in Accounting, Finance or Commerce & Business Administration

ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

• Prefer a minimum 2 years Cost Accounting experience
• A minimum of 2 years experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred
• Excellent computer skill with preferred experience with SAP
• Working knowledge of Cost Accounting and Managerial Accounting concepts and methodologies, as well as how they are applied in a manufacturing environment. 
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, ability to work with detailed information and research problematic areas through data mining and /or queries
• Position requires strong analytical, mathematical and communication (written & oral) skills
• Familiarity with product costing, standard costing, fixed/variable cost concepts, cost absorption methods, and cost-volume-profit analysis

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Will create Accounting Master Data and release cost for new products through the ECM/Workflow system and update cost for the existing products
2.  Will research data of manufacturing production transactions to validate actual product cost accuracy
3. Will communicate with Master Data personnel to verify current Master Data information as compared to production
4. Will ensure accuracy of standard and actual cost in SAP:
• Scrap and Reject Rates
• Efficiency and Capacity Utilization
• Manufacturing and Capacity Utilization
• BOM’s and Routes
5. Will review production master data frequently and request any updates needed to master data group prior to release of standard cost
6. Will prepare budget and calculate necessary rates for cost release and perform cost release processes in SAP
7. Will maintain material cost object structure
8. Will observe production for understanding of processes and breadth of products for each product line to ensure accurate cost
9. Will research manufacturing cost center’s planned and actual costs by account
10. Will make required month-end journal entries
11. Will execute Month End closing processes in SAP
12.  Will analyze monthly variances
13. Will attend Kaizen events
14. Will calculate requested cost saving on result of before and after Kaizen events such as scrap reduction, changing in BOM and routings, labors, etc.
15.  Will attend Walk-Throughs to gain information on the current situation of the production
16. Will prepare and analyze weekly production, efficiency, quality charts and memo 
17.  Will assist in semi-annual inventories
