Cost Accountant
Lunar Energy, Inc. is looking for an experienced Cost Accounting Manager to join its fast-growing team. You will play a key role in the Accounting team and will be responsible for all cost functions including inventory, COGS, capital expense, and eventually, standard cost roll-ups. This role will also assist the wider Accounting team in performing additional GL accounting tasks as required. On a given day at Lunar, you’ll likely…
- Assist in month-end closing, prepare journal entries, analyze inventory valuation, and validate the cost of goods sold
- Prepare inventory and cost accounting entries and account reconciliations
- Analyze the current cost accounting solution implemented by the company and propose recommendations for improvement
- Develop and maintain reporting on margins by product and variance analysis
- Validate unit cost perpetual average, WIP valuation and integrity of physical inventory counts
- Recommend ongoing process solutions to maintain the integrity of cost data
- Work closely with in-house IT to test and implement corrective solutions as needed
- Work with operations team as needed to implement inventory flow and process improvements
- Assist with fluctuation analysis explanations for components of worldwide gross margins for both domestic and foreign operations
- Review manufacturing variances and work with operations teams to reduce these
- Analyze perpetual average costs and review the cost roll-ups for products, production, and service operations and investigate/resolve large variances prior to quarterly finalizationÂ
- Work with operations teams to analyze inventory for potential excess and obsolete reserves and make related entries in accordance with the company’s policies
- Maintain relationships with business partners and finance peers to address information reporting needs
- Provide external auditors with various analysis and audit schedules and ensure compliance with all internal control procedures
- Develop and document controls, processes and procedures related to manufacturing accounting and inventory
- Support and attached physical inventory counts as required
- Assist with additional processes and GL accounting as required (e.g. Revenue, Intercompany)
- Assist with, and lead ad hoc projects as required.
Desired Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (with emphasis in Accounting)
- Manufacturing experience (5 years +) with perpetual average, standard costing, BOM structure, manufacturing variances, overhead and indirect absorption costsÂ
- Analytical thinker with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Ability to drive process improvements and system enhancements
- Detailed experience with inventory, COGS account reconciliations and related accounting
- Experience with month-end closing and working in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent computer skills including advanced MS Excel (e.g. Pivot Tables, V-Lookups, etc.)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with a variety of other functional areas including operations and warehouse teams
- NetSuite experience is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of US GAAPÂ
- Demonstrated ability to work proactively and independently
- Must be a team player and comfortable working in a collaborative environment

Our Compensation Philosophy: Our goal is to ensure that all Lunar Energy employees are fairly compensated. Please note that the salary range information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position provided pursuant to the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act for California applicants. The salary range estimate for this position depending on level of experience is: $130,000 - $160,000 USD.
The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package & benefits, will be at the company’s sole discretion, and determined by factors including but not limited to years of experience, job level, geographic location, and other relevant business considerations.
