How you will make an impact:
The Life Sciences and Laboratory Products Group (LSLPG) within Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Cost Accountant in Carlsbad, CA. The Cost Accountant will be a key partner and support all LSLPG businesses in setting accurate standard costs for new SKUs and ensuring that new inventory is valued correctly on the Balance Sheet. You will be the leader of all inventory processes at our Milwaukee, WI plant.
What you will do:
- Set new SKUs standard costs in E1 and SAP for North America in accordance with corporate policies and generally accepted accounting principles. Support EMEA and APAC regions in setting new SKU standard costs as needed.
- Actively seek out and implement process improvements for new SKU costing. Collaborate with the EMEA and APAC regions to share best practices and explore global solutions to new SKU costing.
- Lead all costing activities for the Milwaukee BID Plant, including the following:
- Perform the monthly close for all inventory activities.
- Review and help to explain monthly results with the Milwaukee Finance team.
- Monitor work order variances, absorption, and PPV each week.
- Lead the plant in rolling standard costs, including the calculation of standard rates.
- Provide E&O support and analysis for the plant, and record entries to adjust the reserve each quarter.
- Observe and support the Cycle Count program for the plant; establish robust cycle count processes and controls.
- Track and depreciate Demo inventory for LSLPG. Assist LSLPG businesses in reconciling Demo inventory account balances and ensure the correct addition and timely retirement of Demo inventory. Assist with Physical Inventories of Demo inventory as needed. Reconcile all Demo inventory accounts each month.
- Prepare journal entry to record global Intercompany Goods In-Transit (GIT) during the monthly close. Reconcile all GIT accounts during closing.
- Support the LSLPG Cost Accounting Team in the bi-annual Global Cost Roll. Build reporting templates and perform ad hoc analyses as assigned by the Finance Director, Ops Finance, or the businesses.
- Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned.
How will you get here:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or relevant discipline
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience is required, preferably supporting manufacturing
- Experience in E1 and SAP ERP systems is required, preferably in Costing
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency in Excel advanced formulas and PowerPoint
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to interface effectively at all levels and demonstrate good judgment, and tact and diplomacy with internal customers. Self-initiative, strong organization skills, and a positive attitude are helpful.
- Experience working in a matrixed organization is preferred.
- Minimal travel required.
The salary range estimated for this position is $74,800 - $114,400. This position will also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. Actual compensation will be confirmed in writing at the time of offer.

Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in California is $83,300.00-$138,900.00.
