Cost Accountant / Senior Cost Accountant

Summary

This role determines and implements cost accounting procedures and methods.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for the preparation of monthly cost reports.
• Examines and reviews unusual cost records and ensures cost data is allocated correctly.
• Performs monthly inventory work order updates and inventory reconciliations.

Additional Key Responsibilities for Senior Cost Accountant:

• Performs accounting for price variances and overhead allocations.
• Updates standard costs through annual budget process, and sets up standard costs for new products.
• Prepares monthly product cost reports and standard cost variance analysis summaries.

Typical Education

Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accounting from 4 year college or university

Relevant Experience

Cost Accountant: 1-5+ years related experience and/or training

Senior Cost Accountant: 5+ years related experience and/or training

Other Information

This role could be a Cost Accountant or Senior Cost Accountant depending on experience. Senior Cost Accounting position would require a more comprehensive understanding of Accounting fundamentals and principals, and the work would be more varied and complex, and assignments would be more broad in nature, usually requiring originality and ingenuity.
