Position Summary
The Staff Attorney is responsible for assisting the MedImpact General Counsel and other in-house corporate counsel with a large variety of legal matters. This position supports organizational stakeholders by responding to and providing guidance to questions, requests, contract reviews, and audit related activities. The Staff Attorney reviews and redrafts communications to clients, internal employees and external third parties Staff Attorney works under the direction of the Associate General Counsel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Responds to and assists internal clients with legal questions and/or legal guidance for client issue resolution
- Supports provider network management, including pharmacy network contracts, and strategy and oversight for state and federal laws and regulations
- Works closely with contracts management to ensure the appropriate language is contained in service agreements and other documents
- Serves a s a resource for utilization management matters providing guidance and advising on technical and tactical issues
- Partners with regulatory compliance to review regulatory requirements and proposed and pending legislation related to the PBM industry
- Responsible for foreseeing and protecting company against legal risks; Performs risk assessment/risk analysis
- Keeps current with emerging regulations, state and federal laws pertaining to the Pharmacy Benefit Management industry
- Develop responses and support for RFPs and identify and mitigate legal and business risks
Supervisory Responsibilities
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Education and/or Experience
For consideration candidates will need:
- BS/BA degree, Juris Doctor (JD) with active license to practice law in at least one state
- At least two (2 ) years' closely related experience
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience working with PBMs and related laws, including pharmacy network and utilization management
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge in:
- MS Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
- Internet and legal research methods
- Legal database software
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Licensed to practice law in at least one state.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Ability to interact with employees/management of all levels
- Solid business acumen, business judgment and decision-making ability
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality on all legal matters and sensitive issues
- Strong analytical and risk analysis skills
