Job SummaryReporting to the General Counsel, the Counsel role provides legal advice to the Companyβs business teams on a wide variety of legal matters, including negotiating agreements with group employer clients, agreements with supplier and vendors, evaluating legal issues related to new business opportunities and advising on issues such as employment and benefits, including policies, and potential disputes and litigation. Areas of responsibility will include advising business clients and stakeholders on legal and risk issues involving the individual retail insurance market, including federal and laws and regulations governing the administration of benefits in that market.
**Selected candidate must live within 250 miles of Rosemont, IL**
**This is a hybrid role with a weekly schedule of 3 days in the office & 2 days remote**
Required Job Qualifications:

Juris Doctor Degree and a license to practice law in the state where the Legal Department is located

Five to eight years legal experience, preferably consisting of a combination of law firm training and prior in-house experience.

Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements with customers and suppliers, with particular focus on third-party benefit administration, healthcare, and technology

Demonstrated ability to handle and oversee litigation and pre-litigation dispute matters, including evaluating arguments and defenses, working with clients to develop litigation strategy, and managing outside counsel

Experience with legal and regulatory issues arising under the Affordable Care Act, with particular concentration in individual retail insurance market, exchanges, and CMS regulations

Conducting legal research on various topics as directed, responsible for keeping current on new legal decisions and statutory developments and providing advice to clients regarding same.

Excellent attention to detail, legal research and writing, communication, and project management skills required.

Good judgment and strong interpersonal skills.

Ability to manage multiple assignments, operate independently, and thrive in a highly, fluid environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, analytical, and people skills.
Preferred Job Requirements:
-
Employee benefits industry experience, including health, wellness, and/or insurance industries.

Familiarity with employee benefits and compensation matters.

Some experience with privacy and data protection as related to employee benefits and insurance is as plus.

Experience and developed knowledge handling employment counseling, drafting employment and severance agreements, and advising on discrimination claims and EEOC matters, including management of outside counsel.

Ability to work effectively and communicate with senior members of the management team.

The salary offered will vary depending on your job-related skills, education, knowledge, and experience. This role aligns with an annual incentive bonus plan.
Min to Max Range:
$98,400.00 - $184,800.00
