What you need to know about the role:

PayPal is seeking a talented, innovative, and passionate engineer to join the Cryptography Engineering and Delivery team. As a cryptographic engineer you will help design, build and maintain the next generation of PKI and certificate life cycle management services. You will specialize in building highly scalable and durable environments to support PayPal global growth. You will contribute to the design, deployment and operational support of these services.

Meet our team:

You will collaborate with extremely talented peers to support our customers' business and technical requirements for X.509 certificates and own the delivery and execution of service excellence.

Your day to day

  • Participate in the design, implementation, testing, deployment and operational support of highly scalable and performant cryptographic and PKI services
  • Develop automation capabilities to enhance validation and operationalization of cryptographic and PKI services
  • Rapid prototype and experiment with new technologies and capabilities to deliver next-generation services
  • Develop and own service excellence to deliver a certificate lifecycle management service for the global customers
  • Implement robust capabilities to discover, identify and predict issues & failures related to certificates usage
  • Be the subject matter expert and provide guidance to team members and key stakeholders on PKI processes, key management and standards
  • Be a technical leader and provide oversight for small teams working on PKI projects and solutions

What do you need to bring:

  • 5-10 years of DevOps experience with strong inclination to build self-service capabilities and automation
  • Demonstrated experience with modern coding languages
  • Working knowledge of developer tools and integration methods
  • 5-7 years of cryptographic security engineering experience in the following areas
  • Understanding of Cryptography and Public Key Infrastructure
  • Knowledge of asymmetric and symmetric cryptography
  • Basic understanding of the X.509 certificate structure
  • Hands on experience with Certificate Lifecycle Management solutions
  • Experience with common troubleshooting techniques and methods
  • Knowledge of cryptographic protocols and ciphers
  • Knowledge of secure key storage facilities and techniques
  • Strong contributor capable of working individually and as part of small teams
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Ability to assess underlying requirement and work collaboratively with cross domain teams to develop technical solutions
  • Ability to work under pressure and with tight deadlines

Your way to impact:

  • Familiarity with hardware security modules (HSMs) such as Thales, Futurex, Fortanix
  • Experience with CA (Certificate Authority) systems such as EJBCA, ADCS
  • Experience with root CA management, and integration with HSMs
  • Experience deploying tools and services in cloud native environments
  • Experience using and/or deploying full certificate lifecycle management tools
  • Experience with Standard PKI interfaces such as SCEP and EST
  • Experience with Standard DevOps tools and services
  • Experience with Container environments and integrations
  • Experience using industry standard monitoring logging tools such as syslog, Splunk, SNMP, LogicMonotor
