What is the position's mission:

  1. Product development direction and support from project initiation to regular production for the Chassis and Powertrain systems.
  2. Product sustainment and improvement throughout the product life cycle in support of the Autocar brand, product strategy & objectives and customer experience.
  3. Ongoing hands-on production line support including troubleshooting and resolution of engineering related assembly and other issues in support of on-time delivery to customers.
  4. Liaising between on-site and off-site teams to ensure successful implementation of new designs and day-to-day support.

Job Description:

The day-to-day activities below pertain to product realization and subsequent product sustainment phases.

  1. Provide design direction, including technical specifications and requirements, to on- and offshore engineering resources for the Chassis and Powertrain systems.
  2. Contribute to product improvements, new features or options development and product portfolio growth initiatives for subject systems throughout the product lifecycle.
  3. Support product planning initiatives.
  4. Keep abreast of and advise the engineering team on industry trends & new technologies related to the chassis and powertrain systems.
  5. Manage 3rd party providers such as suppliers and development teams/consultants as it relates to the subject systems' design, development and ongoing product support & improvements.
  6. Lead and/or support project status reviews, design reviews, design analysis activities such as DFMEA's, product integrity initiatives and production readiness reviews.
  7. Create, maintain, and file design intent & history documentation including testing and validation.
  8. Engage & align with engineering peers across vehicle systems and other platforms in the interest of interface control and commonality.
  9. Identify opportunities and support continuous improvement to promote quality of engineering during the product development & release management process.
  10. Provide day-to-day support of cross-functional teams such as Sales, Service, Warranty, Parts, Purchasing, Materials, Productivity Engineering and Program Management to align goals and expectations.
  11. Perform and/or support online and offline validation and testing of new designs and provide feedback to the design team.
  12. Provide hands-on engineering support to resolve day-to-day assembly line issues.
  13. Ensure deviations and substitutions are implemented as required.
  14. Support the Product Integrity Team with issue resolution.
  15. Interact with customers as required, including product support at customer locations.
  16. Provide engineering support relating to compliance and regulatory matters including participating in industry standards forums/events if required.
  17. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

At least 2 years of engineering experience in a heavy truck environment with an emphasis on Chassis and Powertrain systems including cab-in-white, interior/exterior trim, hoods and grilles.

Experience with UGNX and Teamcenter (or similar 3D CAD & PDM systems) required.

Able to balance long term projects while simultaneously finding solutions to day-to-day issues and adjusting to shifting priorities.
