Customer Development Director - Big Box Specialty

The Customer Development Director is responsible for leading retail customer teams to deliver top and bottom-line growth, market share growth, and associate development through a multi-year customer and people strategy.

This role will interact with and influence across internal functions to deliver innovation and activation plans identified through multi-year customer strategy.

This role will lead development of associates and creating an inclusive high-performing team culture in which all associates can perform their best.

What are we looking for?

  • 10 years of business experience in CPG industries.
  • Minimum of a BA/BS. MBA, advanced degree, or comparable advanced experience a plus.
  • Experience across Sales, customer service, logistics, marketing services, and brand marketing or similar functions
  • Strong eCommerce customer experience (Walmart, PetSmart, Amazon, Grocery OMNI retail)
  • Strong experience in customer and shopper differentiation
  • General Management acumen with budgetary responsibility
  • People Leadership of large teams
  • Strong computer skills and systems literacy
  • Solid understanding of industry and trade channel
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Top CPG customer experience preferred.

What will be your key responsibilities?

  • Provide sales functional team leadership and provide voice of customer into the creation/execution of overall functional strategies/enablers, key initiatives, etc. for $490m portfolio., and team of 20 associates.
  • Accountable for overall resource and budgetary management, to ensure profitable business growth via the achievement of specific GSV/NSV, market share, brand, pack and distribution targets.
  • Accountable for talent management as well as talent development of team ensuring resources are aligned in a manner that leverages both Mars Pet Nutrition and customer strategies.
  • Manage $100M+ budgets across Trade, Marketing Services, Retail Media, Logistics, and Non-Working to deliver mutually profitable business plans.
  • Strong understanding of customer fulfillment methods within an Omni environment and how to best create value for our brands and customers.
  • Manage the collaborative relationship with retailer partners that delivers customer satisfaction and fosters an environment to achieve Mars Petcare business plans and growth objectives.
  • Develop and manage store format strategies, aligning the sales team as well as cross-functional resources/leaders to support execution and deployment of critical tactics and action plans.
  • Provide critical customer input into Mars Petcare around the development of go-to-market (i.e. new item launches, trade deployment, pack creation, etc.) plans and activity sets. Help develop forecast, and provide input on new product concepts, initiatives, and brand plans.
  • Provide leadership in strategy planning, developing new approaches and processes that ensure better customer planning, input, and alignment as well as development of improved activity sets.
  • Be a team player, identifying ways to win and collaborating on objectives and vision to accelerate TTL Mars Pet Nutrition business
