Customer Experience Solutions - Software Engineering Manager (Remote, US)

The Customer Experience Solutions division of EverCommerce is looking to add a Software Engineering Manager who is hands-on and has experience in Python to our team to support the pulseM product. In this role, you'll join us in building a SaaS and integrations platform that provides reputation management, eCommunication, and employee accountability solutions for home services businesses.

You:

You love to build great products and view coding as just one of the tools in your toolbox. You also can put on the customer's hat to see your product through their eyes. You have a bag of tricks for SaaS and API development, and you prefer to test your own code instead of throwing it over the wall. You have used relational databases and are comfortable with MySQL.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and grow a team of passionate engineers through their journey to Agile Maturity. Provide support and guidance that enables the team to self-organize and to achieve sustained high velocity and predictability.
• Manage employee career development by providing coaching and mentoring to junior engineers while guiding senior contributors to maximize their potential. Write performance evaluations, collaborate with employees on their objectives and provide a clear path for progression through personal development plans.
• Collaborate on roadmaps with the VP of Engineering to ensure the team has clear direction and priorities. Translate product requirements into engineering requirements, and ensure there is cross-training and a healthy balance between features and technical debt.
• Collaborate with the VP of Engineering on high-level architecture and technology decisions.
• Institute development best practices to ensure the team produces high quality, well-architected and supportable code. Also, work to enable a Continuous Integration environment.
• Serve as the team's Scrum Master, breaking down roadblocks as well as managing communications with stakeholders. Create a culture of continuous improvement through retrospection.
• Recruiting and motivating top engineering talent.

Where:

The EverCommerce team is distributed globally, with offices across the U.S. and Canada. With a widely distributed team, we are used to working across time zones. This role can be based anywhere in the United States. If you are close to one of our offices, you can choose between an in-office or hybrid set-up, or you can work 100% remotely. Please note that you must be eligible to work in the U.S. to qualify for this position as we do not provide visa sponsorship.

Experience and Skills:

Must haves:

• Minimum 2 years experience leading a team of 4+ as a manager. You are first and foremost a people person who has the ability to attract and motivate top talent. You are curious, collaborative, humble, and have empathy as a key trait.
• You are a strategic thinker and thrive operating in broad scope, from conception through the continuous operation of 24x7 services. As a pragmatist, you are able to distill complex and ambiguous situations into actionable plans for your team.
• Master of agile processes, continuous integration, and test automation. Ideally, you have completed formal Agile training and have managed a Scrum team.
• Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience developing complex systems based on Python. You have worked full-stack on one major platform, and you have experience with backend services and distributed systems.
• Experience managing engineers in a highly technical and complex operations environment. Ideally, you have experience in a production Cloud / DevOps environment.

Nice to haves:

• Proficiency in front-end languages and frameworks, such as JavaScript, VueJS, TypeScript, Angular, or React
• Background in reputation management and SMS/Email applications
• Working knowledge of MySQL and database development
• Working knowledge of NoSQL data stores, such as MongoDB or Redis
• Experience with ElasticSearch
• Experience with data warehousing and business intelligence platforms
• Familiarity with best practices for DevOps and SaaS deployment
• Experience with techniques for unit testing, such as mocks and fakes
• Commitment to Test-driven Development, continuous integration, and test automation
• Experience working in an Agile development environment
• Degree or diploma in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• Desire to debate and explore new technologies
