Cyber New Professionals Group Leader

Department Summary:
The Cyber New Professionals (CNP) department (L514) within the Cyber Operations & Effects Technical Center (L510), is seeking a Group Leader for new early career hires primarily supporting Law Enforcement, Department of Defense, and Intelligence Community sponsors. Some of the group members might spend significant time at sponsor locations. Location at MITRE McLean is preferred for this role.
The Group Leader (GL) will be a core member of the CNP leadership team; the first-line supervisor to group staff responsible for inspiring, coaching, and rewarding employees, enabling them to grow, thrive and prosper at MITRE. Additionally, the Group Leader will also be responsible for helping to recruit new CNP members to support diverse cyber security capabilities.
The CNP program is adapting new and innovative approaches to the training and development of early career cyber professionals across MITRE. CNP, in partnership with the Cyber Effects division of MITRE's Intel Center, will provide mentorship, management, and learning opportunities uniquely tailored to support the needs of early career hires supporting classified work programs.
- The GL will work with N420 Department Managers, Project Leads, Task Leads, and L514 leadership to assign staff to tasks and projects based on the skills and capabilities required.
- The GL will identify staff development needs, training opportunities, and appropriate project work to ensure the transition to classified sponsor work is successful.
In addition to their leadership responsibilities, the GL must be a direct contributor to Cyber Operations & Effects capabilities, projects, tasks, or research.

Job Responsibilities:
- Provide proactive and highly responsive leadership, management, and advocacy to staff
- Work closely with the Department Manager and members of the CNP leadership team to develop and execute the department's mission, vision, strategy, goals, and objectives.
- Participate as a full partner in department/division recruitment and hiring activities.
- Support an effective onboarding experience for new-to-MITRE and new-to-the-group/department employees (e.g. introduce employees to colleagues, and assist with the new employee)
- Work in partnership with employees and N420 department/project/task leaders to identify projects and work that are aligned with employee interest, skills, and career development goals. Continually seek and create opportunities for their employees to provide the most significant impact.
- Solicit and provide regular feedback from project leaders and to employee(s) throughout the year to discuss employee performance and determine what are needed (e.g. recognition, development, coaching, and performance improvement, conversations).
- Make recommendations to DM for development and promotional opportunities for their employees
- Provide input and recommendations to the DM, for assessment of annual impactful goals and associated rewards for direct reports.
- Facilitate professional development through leadership, coaching, mentoring, and communication
- Promote collaboration and integration with other organizational elements within the department and across the Cyber Operations & Effects Innovation Center
Minimum Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
- Demonstrated work experience with at least one of DOJ, USGC-A, NSA/CYBERCOMMAND sponsors
- Current TS/SCI and CI poly with one of DOJ, USGC-A, NSA/CYBERCOMMAND
- Solid understanding and experience with operational cyber security practices and commonly used technologies
- Possess experience within a leadership position with a focus on development of group members and demonstrated experience helping groups network and collaborate
- Excellent writing and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working across the Cyber Effects Division (N420) work programs
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team, across sponsors, and across MITRE as appropriate and experience leveraging relationships to benefit staff and work programs
- Experience leading teams or projects/tasks
