Job Description

The Minority Serving - Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC) seeks a Cyberinfrastructure Engineer (CI Engineer) that will contribute to the development and implementation of campus-supported cyberinfrastructure solutions that advance data-driven research and education programs at HBCUs, TCUs, HSIs, and other minority-serving higher education institutions. The ideal candidate will have experience with selecting, designing, operating, and troubleshooting a variety of CI services, such as those for campus networks, data storage and access management, large-scale computing (including cloud services), and/or repositories and archival. Leveraging CI expertise within MS-CC team and across the national CI ecosystem, the successful MS-CC CI Engineer will gain experience working in collaboration with IT staff and researchers at a variety of minority-serving campuses, to help them build CI services and expertise. Through this work, the CI Engineer will also contribute to the MS-CC's program of community engagement activities, including workshops, training events, and workforce development programs.

About the Minority Serving-Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC):

MS-CC envisions a transformational partnership to promote advanced cyberinfrastructure (CI) capabilities at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs), Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs), and other Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). This will be accomplished through community-building and workforce development opportunities, consulting services provided by MS-CC's core team of CI experts, and by establishing capacity-building connections among institutions. The MS-CC is financially supported via multiple grants from the National Science Foundation and with operational support provided by Internet2.

The MS-CC is searching for an individual that is deeply committed to effectively recommending, implementing, and maintaining cyberinfrastructure solutions that advance academic research at HBCUs, TCUs, and other MSIs. This position serves as a CI Engineer within the Minority Serving - Cyberinfrastructure Consortium (MS-CC) and will be responsible for providing input to MS-CC campuses on the evaluation, design, development, and ongoing support of cyberinfrastructure services for computing, storage, software, and networking infrastructure. The CI Engineer will work closely in a consultation fashion with researchers, educators, and IT staff across a broad range of disciplines to recommend existing solutions and to be an advocate for unmet CI needs across MS-CC's participating institutions. In support of these activities, the CI Engineer will collaborate with the MS-CC team and their network of connections across the CI ecosystem to support the advancement of CI capabilities at member campuses, in many cases liaising connections with other experts and campus-supporting services for members to engage with.
