Vast is looking for a Cybersecurity Engineer, reporting to the Director of Ground Software and IT, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be an exempt role located in Long Beach, CA.
As a Cybersecurity Engineer, you will play a crucial role within our corporate engineering team. You will focus on the behind-the-scenes technologies that uphold the information security standards set by the industry and Vast. Your responsibilities will include researching, selecting/building, and implementing tools to improve our security posture; ensuring we stay in compliance with government regulations pertaining to information security; and training our team on cybersecurity awareness.
Responsibilities:
- Research, select/build, and implement tools to improve our security posture
- Ensure our continued compliance with government regulations like NIST 800-171, CMMC, and ITAR/EAR
- Own training our people to prevent breaches of security
- Work cross-functionally with other teams to ensure the security of the systems they use or build
- Automate our security infrastructure to the maximum extent possible
- Assess our information systems attack surface to identify and remediate gaps and weaknesses
- Build log aggregation and alerting tools to notify the team of incidents in real time
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Security or other engineering discipline
- Experience with one or more of the following scripting/programming languages: PowerShell/Bash, Go, Python, C/C++, Java, Rust
- 2+ years of experience
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Cybersecurity Software Engineering Skills
- Understanding of the network engineering (TCP/UDP, IP)
- Familiarity with Kali Linux
- Internal Audits and Assessment of Cybersecurity Posture
- Risk Management
- Deep understanding of security frameworks like NIST & CMMC, CUI, ITAR/EAR
- Command Line / Scripting
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to support on-call overtime/pager shifts to provide critical real-time support as needed
