As a Data Abstractor you will play a critical role in continuing the healing mission of Deaconess.
Job Overview
Performs computerized follow-up at periodic intervals to attending physicians regarding progress of patients, then pursues various leads on former patients through referring physicians, other health care officials, relatives, or friends of patients. Attends Oncology Committee meetings and NAPBC required meetings to take minutes and maintain electronic files to support accreditations. Send letters to patients or various health care facilities requesting information regarding their progress. Makes occasional phone calls to various state agencies or former patients soliciting information regarding health status, current physician and current address. Assists the Cancer Registrar in abstracting charts by performing case-finding. Maintains Lung Registry database to support the Lung Nodule Review Board. Assists the Cancer Registrar with the maintenance of the Tumor Registry in accordance with the American College of Surgeons guidelines. Answers phone, screens calls, takes and follow-up on messages. Assists in data collection for various projects as required. Performs special studies occasionally for individual departments and groups regarding follow-up status of former patients. Assists Director of Oncology Services with programs and services coordination.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
