The Data Analyst contributes to the overall financial analysis of the MEMIC Group by utilizing data analytics to assist the organization in gathering, aggregating and reporting on data for the Finance, Premium Audit and Billing, Risk, and Actuarial departments. Responsibilities include creating and maintaining decision-support data models, building and updating information dashboards, and working to streamline the departments’ various data collection and analysis processes. In addition, this position will be responsible for researching state’s rating bureaus for any changes in Workers’ Compensation rules and regulations that impact the finance group.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Queries databases and large datasets to access, analyze, interpret and summarize data that will assist management in making business decisions.
- Develops interactive business dashboards and other creative reporting solutions to effectively communicate complex information to internal stakeholders in the Finance, Premium Audit and Billing, Risk, and Actuarial Services departments as well as to external agencies and business partners.
- Assists in updating, modifying, and streamlining existing business processes.
- Provides support for various internal and external data projects and processes on both a recurring and ad hoc basis.
- Documents data sources and data analysis methodology to aid in business continuity efforts and ensure that all data provided by the Finance, Premium Audit and Billing, Risk, and Actuarial Services departments is consistent, accurate and appropriately sourced.
- Collaborates across the organization to learn from and educate peer groups, ensure consistency of data, and aid in various company-wide data conversion and enhancement efforts.
- Researches rating bureau and state agencies to identify regulatory changes relevant to the responsibilities of the overall finance group. Reports findings to the finance management team for analysis and assists with new and updated processes to comply.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Â
-  Bachelor’s Degree with concentration in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Computer Science preferred. Minimum of 1 year of work experience in finance, accounting, data analytics or insurance preferred.Â
- Â Sound understanding of data procurement and analysis procedures, strong analytical skills, and the ability to take initiative on projects requiring communication with various internal or external stakeholders.
- Â Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills at all levels across the organization, including the ability to effectively communicate complex data processes and results to a diverse audience.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to work both independently and in collaboration with multiple teams.Â
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills (complex functions, Macros, data tools, etc.) and experience building PowerBI dashboards.
- Proficient in utilizing SQL to query databases and build reports.
- Familiarity with business intelligence and analysis tools (e.g. Tableau, @Risk) preferred.
