CLA, one of the nation's largest public accounting and professional services firm is currently seeking a Data Analyst Director for our Digital Practice
Position Summary:
The Data Analyst Director loves working with data, whether they are answering questions posed by the business, creating dashboards, or doing detective work to uncover the secrets hidden in the piles of internal and external data we have access to at CLA. It is not uncommon to find our Data Analysts making use of the Microsoft Power Platform, which we have full access to at CLA, or a scripting language like R or Python. Throughout an average workday, a Data Analyst Director might be cleaning data up for analysis or visual display in a report or dashboard, or working out details regarding data access to support a project. Our Data Analysts favorite tools are the Power Platform (Power Apps/Power BI/Power Automate), Excel, DAX, M, R, and Alteryx. In contrast to a Senior, the Director will develop more autonomy to develop solutions and will lead others, take on administrative tasks, perform support roles, and may get involved in new business development.
Essential Job Functions
• Service Expertise: Develop service specific knowledge through greater exposure to peers, internal experts, clients, regular self-study, and formal training opportunities. Take on lead roles with client situations to develop and enhance business skills. Retain knowledge gained and performance feedback provided to transfer into future work. Approach all problems and projects with a high level of professionalism, objectivity and an open mind to new ideas and solutions.
• Data Analysis: Lead external and internal projects involving the collection and analysis of data using a variety of data tools. Together with the Data Analytics team, building and implementing models, using/creating algorithms and creating/running simulations. Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
• Data Development: Collaborate with others on the Data Analytics team to develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets. Develop predictive analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence techniques. Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze solution performance and accuracy.
• People Development: Assist in developing and executing a Data Analytics/Data Science learning plan for varying levels of knowledge and experience.
• Leadership: Focus on building knowledge of the business of CLA, business development skills, and emotional intelligence. Balance between working independently with specific direction and collaborating with others. Interaction with others will primarily be virtual with leadership and colleagues from other offices. Take a leadership role in developing people.
• Collaboration: May choose to focus on technical development or take on additional roles beyond technical development and client service that include: serving as primary contact with clients or business leaders on internal projects, take on administrative tasks, perform support roles, and get involved in developing seamless service offerings with existing clients.
Experience
• Three to seven years of experience in data analytics, public accounting, financial consulting, computer science or related field.
Education
• Bachelor's degree in a field of Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Analytics, or Data Science (e.g., Informatics, Data Science, Health Data Science).
Technical Competencies
Experience* using Microsoft applications including Excel (2016 and Power Query M and DAX languages), Power BI, Power Apps, Alteryx. Experience* using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.• Understand the domain specific nature of data being collected/analyzed and how data may be utilized to satisfy project objectives• Identify potential data sources that may be useful to harness for analysis• Identify disparate data sources to harmonize and deliver integrated solutions• Develop service and industry specific knowledge through greater exposure to peers, internal experts, clients, regular self-study, and formal training• Possess service and industry specific knowledge yielding higher efficiency and productive solutions• Employ commonly used Key Performance Indices (KPIs) within relevant industries and services• Extract data from potentially disparate data sources in order to support a data product or solution• Experience with tabular data models using Power BI framework• Automate extraction of data from disparate data sources in order to support a data product or solution• Plan / prototype applications and other visual displays of data• Create applications/dashboards using Power BI or power apps• Create applications/dashboards using Shiny, golem, or Dash• Create visualizations (using ggplot2, plotly, matplotlib, seaborn, bokeh or using Power BI)• Create exploratory and descriptive analyses using Jupyter, RMarkdown, or similar technology• Understand conceptual aspects of creating a compelling visual display of data• Transform/wrangle data using dplyr, pandas, or other packages/languages• Understand software development concepts such as modularization, variable scoping, object oriented vs functional programming• Comfortable with version control (git) in local and remote setting (GitHub/Azure DevOps) and working as a team developing large software solutions• Ability to code in M, DAX, R, and other languages*Practical experience beyond education required
