Data Analyst Intern

First Orion is actively seeking a Data Analyst Intern to join our collaborative Data Solutions team. Individuals in this role will use their intense curiosity and data mining skills to dive into large data sets. They will focus on assisting day-to-day operations inside the Data Organization involving data cleansing, ETL, data quality, and documentation.

What you'll be doing:

• Compile and prepare data from various sources for data analysis and reporting
• Create and monitor the data quality metrics required to maintain defined quality thresholds
• Assist in performing data aggregation functions and determining ways to categorize data components based upon existing and/or future client needs
• Apply analytical, data product and business skills to the execution of data development and data content used in data products and solutions
• Proactively identify issues and opportunities to enhance data management and reporting
• Focus on short-term deliverables

What you'll need:

• Students pursing a degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics, or related field of study
• Knowledge and/or experience in data analytics, business analytics, or a related area
• Knowledge and/or experience with ETL process/procedures
• Experience with SQL / NoSQL systems
• Programming experience in a language of your choice (Java/Scala/Python preferred)
• High curiosity for data discovery
• Ability to perform verbal and visual storytelling with data
• Self-starter able to work independently without constant supervision
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Availability to work at least 20 hours a week year-round

Bonus Points:

• Prior experience in the telecommunications industry
• Amazon Web Services experience
• Hadoop/Spark experience
• AWS Redshift experience
• Knowledge about big data platforms
