Summary:
We are seeking a Data Architect to join our research team with a focus on driving the development, maintenance, and enhancement of our large data-sharing initiatives in mental health research. As our Data Architect, you'll play a critical role in managing and scaling our International Neuroimaging Data Sharing initiative, Healthy Brain Network, Next-Generation Digital Therapeutics (NGDT) program, among other key open science projects.
Your primary responsibilities will encompass the organization, curation, storage, maintenance, expansion, and sharing of large databases containing vital phenotypic and neuroimaging research data. Leveraging advanced technologies such as Amazon Web Services and local databasing technologies, you will work on large open-science initiatives and closely collaborate with research staff at CMI, supporting data organization and facilitating access to data. Your efforts will greatly contribute to our mission of advancing the field of mental health research.
Reporting to the Research Scientist, this is an exempt, full-time position located in our NYC headquarters office. A hybrid schedule is possible. Remote positions will be considered.

Responsibilities:
- Lead and maintain key data initiatives, including the International Neuroimaging Data-Sharing Initiative (INDI).
- Transform raw data into standard formats and manage large databases, ensuring efficient data wrangling and transformation.
- Maintain and update databases containing various data types in the Longitudinal Online Research and Imaging System (LORIS).
- Ensure stringent data security and participant anonymity protocols are in place and adhered to.
- Lead compliance with data sharing requirements for federal agencies.
- Write effective, scalable, well-documented code, as well as read and manipulate data using Python.
- Provide technical solutions for data organization, supporting both research staff and external collaborators.
- Research and maintain knowledge in emerging technologies and solutions to solve complex research and business problems.
Qualifications:
Minimum requirements
- BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
- Minimum of 6+ years in database management, data analysis languages, Linux environment, and code versioning.
- Proven expertise in scripting languages (Python, Bash, R) and databases (CouchDB, SQL, NoSQL, Snowflake, etc.).
- In depth knowledge of distributed system architectural patterns and best practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with a team-oriented mindset.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to manage large scale data systems.
Preferred additional qualifications.
- Familiarity with neuroimaging data (EEG or MRI).
- Knowledge of writing code in PHP and HTML.
- Experience using cloud-based solutions (AWS, GP, or Azure) and clusters (job schedulers).
