Additionally, it includes implementing an advanced analytics platform (AAP), customer experience (CX) and customer engagement platform (CEP).
The new platform, to be rolled out to Alabama Power, Georgia Power and Mississippi Power, will be implemented in phases over the next four years. Currently, we are building an ASCEND organization dedicated to helping the electric operating companies realize the vision for a modernized, efficient, digital customer experience to deeply engage with our customers and provide a more personalized experience. ASCEND will be one of the most comprehensive Customer Service and Marketing transformation initiatives in our company's history.

This role is responsible for supporting and implementing key technology including the overall technology architecture for the new Advanced Analytics Platform (AAP) and its various software and other integration components.
The architect will be the key participant in making key decisions about the architecture including design and standards for data, derive data requirements, define, develop and implement data logical and physical data models, identify data source and data source integrations to ensure maximum availability, fault tolerance, scalability, performance, security, disaster and cyber resiliency, and overall ease of maintenance and management. The architect will also help ensure holistic approaches and the best designs and solutions for data flows, data synchronizations, and ETL processes. This position will collaborate and facilitate data governance processes for full life cycle management of data including creating and maintaining data catalog. The Data Architect role will define and enforce standards and best practices for data entities. The Data Architect role will work closely with other Architects, Data Owners, Data Stewards, Product Owners, Data Engineers, BI Developers, and Infrastructure teams to implement data solutions with optimized performance, plan for capacity needs and secure storage and use of data.
The architect will operate across organizational and computing groups to drive common approaches and expose information assets and processes across the enterprise. Their goal will be to deliver a data architecture that supports the most efficient and secure advanced analytics environment meeting the company's business needs. They maintain strategic relationships with key technology vendors, lead efforts toward setting and revising data architecture standards, create reference data architectures, engineering templates, and design solutions.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is desirable or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong experience working with large complex enterprise accounts architecting cloud solutions for data estate workloads
- Strong experience implementing large scale data projects within the cloud environment
- Breadth of technical experience and knowledge, with depth / Subject Matter Expertise in two or more of the following technologies:
- SQL (on-prem, Azure-PaaS)
- Azure SQL DW/Synapse
- Databricks
- Cosmos DB
- Data Governance
- Experience with streaming data workloads (e.g. Event Hub, Kafka, etc.)
- Technical capability and experience to learn innovative technologies and understand relevant cloud trend
- Comprehensive knowledge of big data practices.
- Experience establishing and defining technology strategies and roadmaps that meet the strategic and operational objectives of the business.
- Comprehensive collaboration and consulting skills with proven ability to work with and influence others and drive decisions
- Continuous self-learner
- Ability to handle multiple assignments and conflicting priorities
- Ability to build productive relationships with a focus on cooperation and teamwork
- Proven written and verbal communication skills.
- Partner and collaborate with the data consumers to understand business
- processes and requirements.
- Provide key knowledge, insight, and informational guidance related to the integration of data and design of the holistic data landscape in support of AAP objectives.
- Translate requirements into executable data strategies, approaches and platform designs or other means of information delivery.
- Identifying data sources, both internal and external, and working out a data management plan aligned with Southern Company and AAP data strategy.
- Coordinating and collaborating with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and vendors for the smooth functioning of the enterprise data system.
- Make key decisions about the data architecture including design and standards for the modeling, access, cataloging, data quality, data governance and information governance.
- Orchestrate, lead, and influence others in the team, ensuring successful implementation of AAP.
