Data Center Technician

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience with operating systems and networking protocols.
  
• Experience with computer hardware and server hardware or troubleshooting/diagnosing.
  
• 
  Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying or moving up to 50 lbs of equipment, the required use of safety equipment such as limited weight bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools and personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety harnesses in accordance with safety and ergonomic guidelines and assessments.
  
  

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience working within a data center or network operation center environment.

Experience in project management and leadership.

Experience in maintenance and monitoring of server systems.

Experience with Linux operating systems.

Ability to collaborate and partner with teams to overcome issues.

As an Operations Technician, you'll install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (like servers and its components) and server software (like Google's Linux cluster). You'll also take on the configuration of more complex components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches and networking protocols. You'll participate in or lead small project teams on larger installations and develop project contingency plans. As a Data Center Technician, you will install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain hardware (e.g., servers and its components) and server software (e.g., Google's Linux cluster). You will work on the configuration of components such as networks, routers, hubs, bridges, switches, and networking protocols. You will also participate or lead project teams on installations and develop project contingency plans. In addition, you will be involved in the manual movement and installation of racks.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to, and lead efforts/projects in the deployment, maintenance, and support of Google Cloud region (e.g., cloud data center) infrastructure.
  
• Lead troubleshooting and resolve critical or escalated technical issues regarding affected equipment.
  
• Help test and troubleshoot new server hardware components and designs.
  
• Configure and troubleshoot OS-related issues on server.
  
• Resolve technical issues (e.g., hardware, software, application, operational, process) using different tools until final resolution communicating with different stakeholders.
