SUMMARY

The Data Engineer will join the Technology team in a dynamic and growing Alternative Investments firm with a strong technology focus. Technology plays a critical role at GCM Grosvenor, enabling our team members to make timely, data-driven decisions in support of our clients. The software we build enables our team to deploy $71B+ in the most efficient, intelligent, risk-managed way.

Data is the lifeblood of the firm. Everything we do requires frictionless access to timely, trusted data. Like other firms across industries, we are experiencing a data explosion. More data is available to us today than ever before, and we are creating more data than we ever have. Our data lives in many places – relational data stores, NoSQL databases, data lake, behind API’s, PDF documents, etc. You will touch all of them. We have a strong and evolving use of cloud-based, serverless, distributed technologies including Azure Functions, SQL Azure, non-relational databases, and Docker containerization. are seeking an individual who is passionate about building solutions that integrate and transform data with the end goal of enabling end users to make data-driven decisions. The ideal candidate will have expertise in data engineering and data modelling for analytics and business intelligence and must have hands-on experience building data integration solutions in one or more technologies.


RESPONSIBILITIES          

The individual will be involved with the following critical activities:

  • Create and maintain existing database schemas and data models
  • Create and maintain data manipulation pipelines
  • Adhere to and implement department software development lifecycle standards
  • Design, build, and support scalable and resilient data solutions that enable self-service access to data using cloud native technologies
  • Work with legacy technologies (where necessary) while still driving innovation
  • Participate in all team Agile ceremonies and be a dynamic collaborator

 

EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The ideal experience and critical competencies for this role include the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent relevant work experience
  • 5+ years’ experience implementing data solutions
  • Advanced knowledge of data architectures, data pipelines and knowledge of cloud tools like Azure Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines, dbt, etc.
  • Expert knowledge of different principles for designing and loading Data Warehouses
  • Proficient understanding of data integrations with APIs
  • Must have worked on cloud Data Warehouses such as SQL Azure, Azure Synapse, Snowflake, or Amazon Redshift
  • Experience communicating with technical and business audiences
  • Working knowledge and practice working in Agile development environment with strong engineering principles (e.g., scrum) required
  • Solid Experience with Continuous Integration/Deployment tools such as Azure DevOps, AppVeyor, Jenkins, GitLab CI, and/or GitHub Actions
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or RavenDB a plus
  • Experience working with visualization tools like Power BI and Tableau
  • Experience with serverless (PaaS) tools such as Azure Functions or AWS Lambda a plus
  • Experience with message-based and OpenAPI REST-based integration a plus
  • Experience with DevSecOps and a culture of security a plus
  • Ability to adapt within a rapidly changing environment
  • Attention to detail and concern for quality and accuracy
  • Demonstrated team player, self-starter, and independent thinker
  • Outstanding problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Should be comfortable with working in a fast-paced team environment
  • Should take full accountability and ownership of the tasks and the projects assigned
