Data Engineer

As we have migrated a significant portion of our on-prem legacy systems to a modernized Data and Analytics platform, we're looking for a Data Engineer to join our team to maintain, enhance and expand the Cloud data analytics/BI solutions using efficient ELT and data management processes following industry best practices. This individual will serve as a thought leader on the team scaling our data solutions on this next-gen platform. This role reports directly to the Principal Data and Analytics Architect.

Responsibilities

• Own, maintain and scale the Data and Analytics data pipeline that is built on Fivetran, dbt, Snowflake and AWS
• Work closely with the business and IT partners to gain in-depth understanding of customer's business processes, translate business requirements into detailed technical specifications and implement them to expand the data models
• Provide production support and root cause analysis of ELT pipeline failures and reported data bugs
• Design and build new data elements to support front end Power BI solutions
• Collaborate with development and infrastructure teams to establish standards and best practices
• Responsible for the upkeep of on-prem ETL processes and jobs previously built using SQL Server and SSIS
• Performs other related duties as required by position

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree
• 4 + years related experience
• Demonstrated mastery of ETL development using SQL and Python with best practices
• Sound ETL development fundamentals and principles
• Hands-on experience in dbt is highly desired, Fivetran, Snowflake, Jinja or SSIS experience preferred
• Experience in data profiling (i.e. determine the structure, content, and quality of the data through examination of source systems and data samples) and data cleansing
• Experience or knowledge in dimensional data modelling, including constructing slowly changing dimensions
• Experience in working with business to understand how business operates and translating business requirements into technical solutions; Knowledge in insurance industry is a plus
• Good understanding of AWS offerings (EC2, CloudWatch and lambda etc) and preferably has experience applying them in practice
• Comfortable working with Git and the command line
• Experience with Cloud-based CI/CD process is preferred
• Experience in BI tools such as Power BI is a plus
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and strong debugging skills
• Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy with excellent research and analytical skills
• Ability to meet deadlines and triage work requests based upon priority and complexity
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Ability to be flexible, and possesses a growth mindset to acquire new skills
