Data Engineer

We are looking for our first full-time data engineer to design the data architecture that will inform strategic business decisions and improve our revenue and business intelligence systems for years to come. 

This is a unique opportunity to be the first in a new function and build a foundation to scale. The Data Engineer will bring together several sources of company data into a cohesive and comprehensive data warehouse. You will partner with our finance, revenue management, and product teams to build ETLs and drive meaningful initiatives. 

• Acquire, manage, and organize large raw sets of data to develop data-driven business insights and programs- such as cost benefit, forecasting, & experiment analysis 
• Build high volume, distributed, and scalable data platform capabilities  to create efficient and scalable data solutions to enable data access by applications via API.
• Work with Revenue Management to connect data warehouse to BI platform, build reliable revenue forecasting models, and drive portfolio pricing decisions 
• Define and partner with finance, Revenue Management and Product to build the key dashboards and reporting tools that will be used to monitor performance firm-wide
• Participate in the end-to-end process including conception, development, production, deployment, and monitoring of data models and services to optimize room pricing (competitive set, price positioning, occupancy, seasonality)
• Use a combination of exploratory analysis and data mining techniques to generate actionable insights about the guest experience
• Implement and support the revenue management team on data best-practices

• A Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Data Science or related field 
• Worked in a previous role at a startup organization; comfort with ambiguity and rapid pace of improvement that’s a natural part of an evolving team
• Experience maintaining data science standards (ensuring accurate data pre-processing pipeline, iterating on existing queries to continually improve, checking for fallacies in implementing analytical models, etc.) 
• Shown ability to troubleshoot and identify the root cause of the issue. Demonstrated skill and passion for operational excellence
• Entrepreneurial mindset., You enjoy the process of making something new, learning and rapidly evolving the product as you go along and unknown
• Demonstrated proficiency in Python (pandas, requests, google packages a plus)
• Demonstrated proficiency in SQL query creation and optimization (BigQuery a plus)
• Familiarity with Google-based cloud services (BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Drive, and Secrets); ideally also Google services administration (IAM)
• Familiarity with maintaining connection between BigQuery instances and Looker instances (or similar database and BI tools) 
• Familiarity with Confluence and JIRA
• Eager to learn new things and speak up; you will get exposure to real business problems every company faces (growth)

• Communication skills (verbal, written) for both technical and non-technical audiences.
