As a Data Engineer, your role will be hands-on. You'll be writing lots of code and interacting with developers and business partners from across the organization. You'll help us with building out our Operational Data Store (ODS).
Ingest data from various platforms, services, and processes into Cengage's Operational Data Store (ODS).

As a Data Engineer, your role will be hands-on. You'll be writing lots of code and interacting with developers and business partners from across the organization. You'll help us with building out our Operational Data Store (ODS).
Ingest data from various platforms, services, and processes into Cengage's Operational Data Store (ODS).
- Perform data analysis, data modeling, cleansing, loading, transforming & performance tuning using ETL/ELT data pipeline.
- Develop SQL queries, views, and other database scripts to manage data in ODS.
- Develop REST based API services to serve canonical metamodels to downstream consumers.
- Participate in the breakdown, estimation, and design of small increments of work.
- Test solutions with the utmost scrutiny. Remember: We love testing and hate downtime!
- Security is taken seriously, so protecting student and instructor data is something that we think about in every aspect of the SDLC.
Skills You Will Need Here:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, mathematics, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience
- 3+ years of experience in RDBMS and data engineering
- 3+ years of experience developing complex and optimized SQL queries against large datasets
- 2+ years of experience writing quality code including tests in languages such as Scala, Java, or Python.
- Experience with a variety of database technologies; Oracle preferred
- Ability to improve the testability of our tools and data pipes while driving high standards for coding and testing across the organization
- Track record of shipping high-quality features and products, in a high-volume, always-available Agile development environment
- A passion for automating just about everything, but especially testing, packaging and deploying

- Participates in open-source projects
- Experience as a DBA
- Experience working with industry standard ETL/ELT tools such as Talend, Informatica etc.
- Experience working with AWS services
- Experience with a variety of software development applications, environments, and languages
- Passion for working in the academic, professional or library markets
