Data Engineering and Analytical Tools Intern

Data Engineering and Analytical Tools Interns will support the management and utilization of data within the Reliability, Test and Compliance teams, ensuring product reliability throughout the entire lifecycle of our revolutionary home energy products. This is a hybrid position between the spaces of Data 

Engineering and Software Development, and is a great opportunity for students to explore working cross functionally in both spaces with mentorship. This includes optimizing data pipelines, developing user interfaces to interact with data, automating analyses, and deriving insights to drive engineering development. We are looking for people who are passionate about a more sustainable future and want to make that vision a reality. On a given day at Lunar, you’ll likely…

  • Collaborate with design, test, manufacturing, and IT infrastructure teams to build, improve, and iterate systems to collect, manage, store, and process data to be utilized by engineering teams and data scientists in the reliability, test, cell and compliance group. 
  • Data pipeline development
    • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines for collecting, processing, and storing large volumes of data from various sources.
    • Ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability throughout the pipeline.
  • Data Integration
    • Integrate data from multiple sources, including databases, APIs, and external systems.
    • Develop custom connectors and scripts to facilitate data ingestion.
  • Develop and implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) Processes
    • Create and optimize ETL processes to transform raw data into a usable format for analysis and reporting.
    • Implement data transformation logic using programming languages and frameworks.
  • Software Development
    • Leverage software development best practices to build and maintain data engineering tools, scripts, and applications.
    • Collaborate with software development teams to integrate data solutions into new and existing applications.
  • Data Modeling
    • Work with data architects and data scientists to design data models and schemas that meet business requirements.
    • Implement and maintain data modeling standards.
  • Performance Optimization
    • Identify and address performance bottlenecks within data pipelines and systems.
    • Optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing for scalability and efficiency.
  • Monitoring and Troubleshooting
    • Develop monitoring and alerting systems to ensure data pipeline health.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in a timely manner.
  • Documentation
    • Document data pipelines, processes, and workflows.
    • Create clear and concise documentation for data engineering solutions.
  • Work on projects from cell and battery testing, power electronics, and communication devices.


Desired Skills:

  • Recommended:
    • Pursuing coursework in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, Analytics, Statistics, or other relevant discipline or experience. Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students are encouraged to apply.
    • Strong understanding of data structures and types
    • Experience or exposure to various programming languages, applications, and modern front-end frameworks such as: Python, SQL, AWS/Redshift, Github, LabVIEW, Scala, React, Steamlit, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Angular, Vue.js, etc.
    • Experience or exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Nice to have:
    • Interest/experience in full stack development, from projects such as database structure management, feature engineering, and front end/web interfaces for DB interaction, editing, and easy-access to data for engineers.
    • Knowledge of web security best practices and authentication methods.
    • Leadership or project management experience, working cross functionally in project based settings is a bonus.

Our Compensation Philosophy: Our goal is to ensure that all Lunar Energy employees are fairly compensated. Please note that the salary range information that follows is a good faith estimate for this position provided pursuant to the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act for California applicants. The hourly range estimate for this position depending on level of experience is: $30.00 - $45.00 USD.

The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package & benefits, will be at the company’s sole discretion, and determined by factors including but not limited to years of experience, job level, geographic location, and other relevant business considerations.
