Who we're looking for:
Asia-Pacific Latin-America (APLA) is a multi-cultural, growth Geography looking for a Data Engineer Manager who can partner with a variety of Nike teams to build and support analytical data products that drive Nike's consumer experience.
The successful candidate will bring their proven leadership experience, their excellent communication and relationship building skills in addition to their current, hands-on coding skills. In this role, you will be responsible for coaching developers to continuously elevate their engineering skills and to deliver innovative and high-quality solutions. You'll lead by example, promote our agile culture, and be an advocate of new technology and development techniques!
What you'll work on:
- Facilitate team's delivery of scalable, maintainable, performant data engineering solutions
- Work through your teams to define/design solution options, evaluate technical feasibility, and provide estimates on effort and risk
- Drive the design and implementation of new data projects and the optimization of existing solutions
- Collaborate across teams - business partners, product, engineering, architecture, platforms - to facilitate solution delivery
- Work with architecture and engineers to ensure quality solutions are implemented, and engineering practices are defined and followed
- Drive collaborative reviews of designs, code, and test plans
- Define the team's technical roadmap and influence its adoption
- Anticipate, identify and solve issues concerning data management to improve data quality
- Work across teams to resolve operational & performance issues
- Identify and remove technical bottlenecks for your engineering teams
- Manage, mentor, and inspire the team; manage performance, goals and development potential
- Provide guidance to team members on work items or technical scenarios
- Evaluate potential new engineering talent
This role is part of APLA Technology's Enterprise Data & Analytics organization. You will lead teams of data engineers, software engineers, data analysts and collaborate with other leaders and business partners within APLA and across the company. Nike moves quickly, which requires its business processes and systems to follow suit. The Data Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the team through these evolutions to ensure technical solutions keep pace.
What you bring:
The following qualifications and technical skills will position you well for this role:
- MS/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience and training
- 7+ years of experience in large-scale software development, 3+ years of data engineering experience
- 2+ years of management or team lead experience
- Proven track record of delivering on commitments
- Ability to define/design solution options, evaluate technical feasibility, and provide estimates on effort and risk
- Ability to lead, influence and communicate effectively, both verbally and written, across teams and roles
- Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms and architecture patterns
- Experience building distributed / cloud scalable, high-performance data solutions
- Demonstrated competence in Python and Apache Spark
- Experience with messaging/streaming/complex event processing tooling and frameworks with an emphasis on Spark Structured Streaming or Apache Nifi
- Experience with data warehousing concepts, SQL and SQL Analytical functions
- Ability to learn new technologies, adapt quickly, and lead a team of highly capable engineers
- Experience participating in key business, architectural and technical decisions
- Experience identifying, hiring, and nurturing/mentoring engineering talent
- Ability to identify and resolve both people and process related issues
- Experience in Agile/Scrum application development
- Familiarity with the principles of Domain Driven Design
- Comfort with a fast-paced, results-oriented environment
- Practical approach to solving complex problems with ambiguous requirements
The following skills and experience are also relevant to our overall environment, and nice to have:
- Experience programming in Scala, or Java
- Experience working in a public cloud environment, particularly AWS
- Experience with cloud warehouse tools like Snowflake
- Experience working with NoSQL data stores such as HBase, DynamoDB, etc.
- Experience building RESTful API's to enable data consumption
- Experience with build tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation and automation tools such as Jenkins
- Experience with practices like Continuous Development, Continuous Integration and Automated Testing

*Remote Work Option - Open to remote work except cannot work in South Dakota, Vermont, and West Virginia. These candidates will be required to relocate.
For employees based in Colorado, this position has an annual base salary range of $121,000 - $182,000 .
For employees based in NYC and Westchester County, NY, this position has an annual base salary range of $144,500 - $217,000 .
