Data Platform Architect

We're in the early stages of revamping our data platform to enable new business use cases, streamline our ML workflows, and enable rapid onboarding of new content into our lake house environment. If you're interested in working with internal customers and data engineers to design and build out our next generation platform, we're looking for you!
What you do at Avant:

• Keep abreast of industry trends in the data space and provide thought leadership on how to best facilitate using lake/warehouse data in both internal and external product offerings
• Work with internal customers and partners to understand platform needs and pain points
• Research, document, and plan the roadmap for the data platform
• Implement new technologies and set standards along with the data platform team
• Draft initiatives and epics for the platform team
• Collaborate with product management to prioritize work and explain the value of technical initiatives to executive leadership
• Mentor teammates

Why you are a fit for Avant:

• 5+ years of data architecture experience
• Significant experience with evaluation and implementation of tools and frameworks in the data space
• Expertise in batch, transactional, and stream processing concepts
• History of designing and implementing cloud-native solutions, especially in AWS
• Experience designing and/or implementing ML pipelines strongly preferred
• Software development experience related to common libraries/utilities or peripheral services
• You understand common US data governance requirements and have designed systems to accommodate them
• Hands-on experience with:
  
  • Redshift or similar
  • Apache Spark, preferably with Databricks and python
  • BI reporting tools (ex: Looker, Tableau, PowerBI, etc)
  • Apache Airflow

Ideally some experience with:

• Data catalogs (ex: Alation, Collibra, etc.)
• ML tools and concepts, H2O preferred
• Data integration tools (ex: Fivetran, DBT)
• Strongly prefer candidates in the Chicago area, but remote candidates will be considered
