The Data Protection Specialist is an integral part of not only data privacy and compliance, but also for efficient management of data maintenance practices in general. The individual in this role will be a key member of the compliance team assisting with ongoing initiatives, but with a primary focus on cataloging and protecting the data collected and stored by FreedomPays’ payment solutions. The Data Protection Specialist will also be responsible for ensuring all stored data is properly secured while needed, and properly deleted or anonymized when no longer needed. This will occur through regular communication and collaboration with FreedomPay’s Database Administration, Database Development, and IT Infrastructure teams to drive new procedures and enforce established requirements.

  • Database Collaboration:
  • Interface with the database team to understand the scope of data collection, storage, and retention policies.
  • Collaborate on database mapping exercises to identify where data is stored, for how long, and implement necessary protections.
  • Data Protection Oversight:
  • Act as the primary point of contact for new data initiatives and data movement within the organization.
  • Privacy Compliance:
  • Act as a liaison between external regulators and leadership, providing necessary information and documentation as required.
  • Funnel compliance-related information into the general compliance space, assessing the appropriateness of data storage and disclosure.
  • Day-to-Day Operations:
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate data compliance measures into daily operations.
  • Provide expertise on data privacy from both legal and IT perspectives.
  • Proven experience as a privacy advocate with a strong understanding of legal and IT aspects.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in technology, IT compliance, or data privacy
  • Knowledge of the privacy legislation and best practices
  • Understanding of PCI compliance, privacy legislation (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)
  • Experience as legal facing, technical subject matter expert
