Data Science Intern, Marketing (Grad Student)

The FourKites Marketing team is looking for a Data Science Intern (Grad Student) to join the team for a part-time role (20-30 hours per week).

The Data Science Intern will play a key role analyzing our wealth of supply chain data to help drive media coverage for FourKites. The role, which combines data-driven storytelling and data science techniques, will focus on uncovering trends & insights related to current events impacting the global supply chain. Stories featuring FourKites data have recently appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Forbes, CNBC, Bloomberg, Reuters, The Telegraph, and many industry publications.

The Data Science Intern will work in close collaboration with Marketing Data Scientist as well as other members of the Marketing, Product, Business Operations, and Data Science teams.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze and derive insights from FourKites supply chain data using analytical tools such as SQL, Tableau, R/Python, and spreadsheet software
• Leverage FourKites data to uncover important trends related to current events in the supply chain & logistics space
• Tell crisp, succinct data-driven stories through deep analysis and visualization. Such analysis is integral to driving continued inbound media interest, and fuels ongoing marketing campaigns
• Seek out opportunities to utilize FourKites data by staying on top of the current news cycle
• Document analyses performed and methodology used to ensure reproducibility of results
• Assist with other projects related to marketing analytics (e.g. customer targeting, funnel conversion rates, effectiveness of marketing activities, etc.)
• Complete a final project of your own choosing, related to deepening our understanding of broader supply chain trends in our data

Desirable Skills & Experience:

• Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in Engineering, Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, or other relevant technical field
• Experience telling stories with data, including clear visualizations and an ability to communicate clearly and cogently with data
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong understanding of relational databases and experience writing SQL queries
• Ability to perform data cleaning and manipulation tasks using tools like SQL, R, Python, or spreadsheet software
• Experience with Data Visualization using Business Intelligence and other analytical tools like Tableau (preferred), Excel, R, Python, Power BI, Sisense, or Apache Superset
• Solid understanding of basic statistical concepts and techniques such as descriptive statistics, regression, and hypothesis testing 
• Proven ability to investigate data (vetting, anomaly detection and resolution, etc.)
• Self-motivated, independent, and high-performance individual, with ability to learn new technologies and become productive extremely fast
