Job Description

The Data Science Manager is a hands-on role, responsible for leading a team of data scientists and engineers, to deliver business value from large data sets through complex data research and analysis, and product development. While owning policy and strategy implementation for short-term results (1 year or less), this job oversees the development of data mining and data analysis methodologies to create algorithms and predictive models. This job monitors data science projects and processes and reviews the implementation of new data mining and data analysis processes. This job also ensures policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by direct reports.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develops & directs development and implementation of data mining protocols, architecture, and models as well as data analysis methodologies, used to identify trends in large data sets.
  • Leads the implementation of new data mining and data analysis processes as needed to improve effectiveness and accuracy of data analyses, based on research of existing and emerging data science principles, theories and techniques.
  • Conducts & oversees statistical reporting, data analyses insights, and data visualizations, used to better understand client relationships and improve client services and product offerings.
  • Conducts & monitors data exploration and analytic projects, providing continual coaching of big data topics including visualization, analytic techniques, and data mining.
  • Communicates insights from analyses to executive leadership in order to enable data decision making to improve business performance and operational outcomes based on machine learning and statistical analysis results.
  • Coordinates the data modeling, statistical reporting, data analysis, and research completed by Data Scientists.
  • Contributes to the digital transformation roadmap design and development, constructing frameworks, standards and guidelines.
  • Manages performance of the direct reports through regular, timely feedback as well as the formal performance review process to ensure delivery of exceptional services and projects, motivation and coaching and mentoring of the team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of work experience in data science
  • 2+ years of experience managing a team of data scientists or engineers
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, or other quantitative field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of delivering at least 1 successful model or product, into production and driving business value
  • Strong programming skills in Python and AI/ML libraries (such as TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, etc)
  • Expertise in natural language processing (NLP) and conversational AI
  • Demonstrated work experience work with big data tools and large databases
  • Experience with Cloud Technologies

Base Pay Range: $122,300/yr. - $168,000/yr.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, the competitive compensation package may include, depending on the role, participation in an incentive program linked to performance (for example, annual discretionary incentive programs, non-annual sales incentive plans, or other non-annual incentive plans).
