Your Role
As a Data Science Manager within the Claims Analytics team, you are responsible for providing subject matter expertise, thought leadership, and developing/improving all aspects of analysis and deliverables for the Claims & Operations organization.
Reporting to the Sr. Director Data Analysis, you will play a critical role in enhancing our organization by using data and analytics to drive business strategy, increase automation, identify/measure process efficiencies, and enhance the customer experience across the USLI Claims organization.
This role requires working closely with key stakeholders, collecting requirements, and producing deliverables in the form of presentations/readouts, analysis reports, dashboards, and raw datasets that will be used to drive business decisions.
The Manager develops analysis, demonstrates thought leadership, manages complex projects, builds relationships, recruits and mentors staff, and collaborates with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate possesses advanced analytical skills along with multiple years of experience leading individuals and developing a cohesive, high functioning analytics team.
What You Will Be Doing• Partner with Sr. Director, Data Analytics & Claims Analytics team to execute on a robust strategy that integrates data and analysis into all aspects of the claims process, ensuring a precise and comprehensive delivery of insights, data storytelling, and business actions.• Develop and lead a team of analysts with the skills, capabilities, and passions necessary to successfully drive and sustain a data focused culture• Defines, develops and provides insights, metrics and analysis to drive the decision-making process and support business operations for internal and external customers• Create data storytelling presentations for senior executive level that demonstrates complex data findings in a clear and concise manner identifying actionable insights and next steps• Facilitates a data-driven, statistical approach to problem solving, including gathering, analyzing and reporting data• Solves complex problems utilizing creative solutions and new perspectives• Becomes an expert in assigned business processes, including upstream and downstream implications. Relates business process to financial performance measures and analysis. • Partners with business process owners to connect data insights to business actions.• Understands how data plays a role in process improvement projects, supporting appropriate teams with accurate and insightful information and analysis. • Conducts research and analysis to quantify business opportunities and issues; leads execution and implementation• Influences all levels of an organization to support projects and/or ideas. Measures and validates project results, and successfully implements all facets of process improvements or changes identified.• Focuses on automation and utilizing technology to provide repeatable reporting solutions
Must Have/What You Bring• Intellectual curiosity and a desire to find answers. Ability to "connect the dots", tell the story, and provide creative solutions.• Bachelor's degree in an analytical or technical discipline• At least 5 years of analyst experience in a dynamic environment. Expertise obtained through progressive analytical and operational work experience• At least 1 year of direct leadership experience with proven ability to develop your team and execute on strategy• Outstanding presentation and written communication skills. Able to develop and deliver clear, crisp, and business partner focused messages and presentations to all levels of associates & management.• Hands on Intermediate to advanced experience with database analysis required (SQL, Python, BigQuery, Snowflake, Airflow, etc)• Development experience in scripting/analytics language (Python, R, SAS, etc.)• Expert use of data management and visualization tools (Excel/PowerBI/Spotfire/Tableau) including the ability to perform calculations, create charts and graphs to analyze data and use analysis to create compelling and actionable data stories to share with key stakeholders to drive decisions• Relish and stimulate change - a demonstrated change agent with the ability to influence at all levels of the organization• Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple and changing priorities• Ability to influence and work collaboratively in a team. Build relationship & networking skills with internal organization and business partners
Nice to Have
• 3+ years of direct leadership experience and 8+ years of analyst experience• Life/LTC Insurance product and claims process knowledge• Strong candidates should be comfortable not just creating visualizations but in developing the underlying analysis and story the data tell -- they will not be alone in this effort as the organization has a strong team culture but at the same time, this is a role for someone with breadth as well as depth• Clear understanding of concepts and application of statistics, predictive analytics and machine learning, and an ability to explain these to our customers in easy to grasp ways that illustrate why they're useful• Interest in using AI/ML to solve business challenges, including Natural Language Processing, machine vision, and deep learning techniques• Master's degree in related field
