Data Scientists are a part of AES's digital transformation and work with Data and Business leaders to develop strategies for bringing to bear data to solve business problems. As staunch advocates for the business, data scientists are familiar with the day-to-day business challenges in the energy business and are constantly looking for ways to leverage data to improve decision making and processes while managing those data projects to ensure on-time delivery and meet expectations.

Qualified candidates will have knowledge of AI/ML techniques, feature engineer approaches, statistics and complex analysis. A primary responsibility of the job will be to develop AI/ML models supporting demand response, energy efficiency, competitive behaviors, renewable energy, and distributed energy resources, as well as on energy pricing. The position will also involve supporting new business development working strongly with existing global businesses.

As a Data Scientist supporting AES, you will:

• Gain an understanding of AES's energy business, company culture, technology stack and analytics capabilities.
• Work independently and collaboratively with peers and project managers with supervision to manage research projects to deliver high-value solutions to clients and participate in research efforts, ensuring consistency, quality, and reproducibility of research methods.
• Collaborate with other team members to build upon results to create deeper insights.
• Monitor workflow of data projects by assigning and aligning resources and ensure completion dates are being met.
• Support algorithm development and deploy solutions based on real-world data; implement and validate predictive models; create and maintain statistical models.
• Communicate with internal and external clients to understand business needs and provide analytical solutions.
• Use statistical concepts such as regression, time series, mixed model, Bayesian methods, clustering, etc. to analyze data and provide insights.
• Work in an Agile, collaborative environment, partnering with other scientists, engineers, and database administrators of all backgrounds and fields to bring analytical rigor and statistical methods to the challenges of predicting behaviors.
• Data analytics including identifying, retrieving, manipulating, relating and exploiting multiple structured and unstructured data sets from various sources including building or generating new data sets.
• Identify, retrieve, manipulate, relate and exploit multiple structured and unstructured data sets from various sources including building or generating new data sets as appropriate.
• Create and present materials on data projects, data science architecture and analytics strategies.
• Work closely with software developers and customers to design and develop analytic services and data driven solutions.

The Work You May Do

• Manage projects in an Agile method and meet business deadlines
• Support strategic decision-making through analysis, with a focus on financial outcomes, business partnering to distill key financial insights into usable data for cross-functional teams, and collaborating with cross-functional leaders on strategic project execution.
• Review completed data requests for quality before final artifacts are delivered to customers.
• Present, leading workshops and explain complex ideas to the business.
• Set annual roadmaps and secure alignment from leadership and peers for resource allocation and execution.
• Lead and mentor commodity traders by providing leadership and analytical support while also keeping senior management informed on key business metrics
• Manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously while maintaining High attention to detail
• Make trade off decisions to change prioritization or the scope of projects as needed.
• Lead organizational change and help team members gain new skills.

• Currently enrolled in in Business Analytics, Mathematics, Economics, Physics

Preferred Professional And Technical Expertise

• Master's degree in quantitative analysis, engineering, engineering, statistics or a closely related field; a PhD degree is preferred.

• 3+ years of professional experience in Data Science

• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts and statistical concepts such as regression, time series, mixed model, Bayesian methods, clustering, etc., to analyze data and provide insights.
• Experience collaborating, managing & developing AI/ML projects in Google Cloud Platform
• Strong communication and data visualization skills to adequately explain complex subject matter to a wide range of associates.

Responsibilities
• Selecting features, building and optimizing classifiers using machine learning techniques• Data mining using pioneering methods• Visualizing data to provide predictive insights and drive decision making• Extending company's data with third party sources of information when needed• Enhancing data collection procedures to include information that is relevant for building analytic systems• Processing, cleansing, and verifying the integrity of data used for analysis• Performing ad-hoc analyses and presenting results and business outcomes in a clear and compelling manner• Creating automated anomaly detection systems and constant tracking of its performance• Be an evangelist for the use and data and data driven decision making at all levels of the organization.

Skills and Qualifications• Bachelors in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics applicable real-world experience required, Masters or Phd. preferred.• 3+ years' experience in data analytics or data science or applicable research • Excellent understanding of machine learning techniques and algorithms, such as k-NN, Naive Bayes, SVM, Decision Forests, etc.• Experience in the production of energy, commercial energy markets or energy industry preferred• Experience with common data science toolkits, such as R, Python, SAS, NumPy, MatLab, etc. Deep experience in Python or R is highly desirable
• Experience using cloud platforms (Azure ML, GCP ML, AWS SageMaker) and deploying analytics in a production environment (Microsoft Preferred)
• Demonstrates natural curiosity, an ability and willingness to challenge assumptions and gain a deeper understanding of the problem bringing to bear contextual inquiry
• Takes ownership, promotes perspectives and insights in a way that gives others comfort about how they were derived and what the next natural questions might be
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to ensure analytics projects are meeting the needs of the business users• Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL, Hive, Pig
• Experience with NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, Cassandra, HBase
• Strong applied analytics and statistics skills, such as distributions, statistical testing, regression, etc.• Demonstrated ability to develop and deploy scripts and programming skills• Analytical personality
