JOB TITLE:
Data Scientist
JOB DUTIES:
Develop and use algorithms, statistics, advanced analytical techniques such as predictive models to drive solutions against critical business problems and potential future outcomes. Analyze structured and unstructured data associated with claims, policy, payment activities, and benefit eligibility adjudication decisions to solve complex business problems using advanced statistical and econometrics techniques and cutting-edge technology in the industry. Collaborate with business partners to understand their problems and goals, gather business requirements, and develop predictive modeling, statistical analysis, and key performance indicators dashboard. Build automated dashboards and reports to monitor operations and/or actuarial functions. Monitor and establish metrics for operations, legal, and actuarial functions. Recommend changes to processes based on trends and data analysis. Participate in Claim strategic initiative projects by providing insight and data analysis. Maintain and evaluate trend data to effectively administer appropriate responses when sudden peaks or lows are experienced. Build and maintain reporting using a variety of tools that will include Business Objects, SQL, and Spotfire. Interact with internal and external peers and managers to exchange complex information related to areas of specialization and expertise.
SALARY:
$124,467 per year
WORK SCHEDULE:
Full-time, 40 hours/week, Mon - Fri 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires a Bachelor's degree, or foreign equivalent, in Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field, and two (2) years of experience in the job offered, as Systems Engineer, or related. Alternatively, employer will accept a Master's degree and completion of an internship (approx. 10-12 weeks), or equivalent experience. Qualifying experience or internship must include each of the following: Data analysis and modeling utilizing Python and/or R; Big data technologies including Hadoop, Spark, Hive, Databricks, and AWS/Azure; Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) technologies including SQL Server, Greenplum, and Oracle; Use of version control tools including GitHub/GitLab; and, Data visualization tools including Spotfire, Tableau, and Business Power Intelligence or Business Objects. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training, or experience.
Quarterly travel to Richmond, VA office location is required.
