The Fraud Defense Cyber Center (FDCC) is a diverse team of cybersecurity, fraud, and risk experts who work with partners across PayPal to spearhead collaborations that achieve durable and holistic solutions to complex types of fraud. The mission of the FDCC is to shine a light on the dark web to understand fraud, use that understanding to create actionable intelligence, respond to incidents when immediate mitigation is needed, and work with partner teams to ensure that appropriate controls and policies are in place to protect our customers and platforms.

We are looking for a passionate, highly talented, and self-driven Sr. Fraud Intelligence Data Scientist to join our team. You should be eager to learn and able to master many fraud, cyber, and abuse typologies and data sets and have a strong focus on understanding what your customers want and need.

Job Description:

Things you'll do:

  • Partner with the FDCC's proactive threat hunting and investigation teams to gain an in-depth understanding of novel fraud trends.
  • Analyze fraud trends, in partnership with the FDCC, Risk, Compliance, and Financial Crimes teams, to identify policy and control changes that may detect and prevent further attacks against PayPal customers.
  • Operationalize intelligence by leading the development, implementation, and analysis of fraud signals end-to-end.
  • Create automated reports to distribute to various internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with our product development teams to create, monitor, and modify fraud models and alerts.
  • Conduct forensics analysis over large historical datasets to determine root cause and impact.
  • Collaborate with data analysts to compile and present analytical findings and cyber threat intelligence reports to a senior-level audience.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 6 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 5 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 2 years experience; or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in risk, cybersecurity, fraud detection, or anti-money laundering
  • Experience using analytics tools and big data platforms such as Hadoop, Big Query, Splunk, and SQL
  • Familiarity with at least one scripting language (Python, Javascript, etc.)
  • Prior experience in payments, eCommerce, or the FinTech ecosystem is preferred
  • Strong presentation and professional communications skills
