Data Scientist

Position Role:

The Data Scientist plays a critical role on the Data Analytics Platform team - collaborating with Product and internal operations teams to use data insights to advance student literacy and inform decision-making and strategy. Successful candidates in this role will blaze a new trail for Benchmark in the use of advanced Data Analytics with Benchmark's Adaptive Learning technology. The Data Scientist will also contribute to business strategy and operations by leveraging internal data sets to help Benchmark delivery value more efficiently and effectively to its customers. This role is one of both technical leadership and hands-on execution. Data Scientists will often work directly with stakeholders and software engineers, alike.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Using statistical and AI-based technologies, develop algorithms that can analyze data on student performance and engagement, and use this information to make recommendations for personalized learning paths.
• Collect and manage data on student behavior and learning outcomes, and developing models that can predict future performance and suggest interventions to improve outcomes.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the adaptive learning system through analysis and experimentation, using these insights to drive improvements and optimizations over time.
• Working with Benchmark business departments, identify key metrics and operational goals, analyze datasets from business applications, and create predictive (and eventually prescriptive) models that help focus operations on driving key metrics and inform business decisions and strategy
• Analyze business datasets to identify patterns and trends, and create/present visualizations and reports that communicate insights to stakeholders.
• Work directly with business and product leaders to analyze user needs, data, and process to model the complete lifecycle of data elements within the technology ecosystem
• Drive the evolution of Benchmark's Data Analytics platform by identifying opportunities to improve and contributing to design and architecture
• Contribute to the design and construction of Data Engineering solutions that enable raw data capture, cleaning, and processing
• Architect, implement, and monitor pipelines

Job Requirements:

• 5+ years professional experience as Data Scientist or similar role
• A bachelor's or master's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, physics, or a related quantitative field.
• Data handling and management skills: Experience with working with large and complex data sets, including data cleaning, transformation, and manipulation.
• Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data science, such as Python, R, SQL, and Java, as well as experience with libraries such as NLTK, TensorFlow, Pandas, NumPy, and SciPy
• Proficiency in reverse engineering data (patterns, etc.) to infer logical relationships and quickly identify potential inconsistencies
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Excellent organization and documentation skills.
• Strong foundational problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency with our existing relational database platforms (MySQL, SQL-Server, Redshift)
• Prior experience implementing ML/DL systems
• Experience with business intelligence & visualization tools such as PowerBI or Tableau
• Experience with project management and the implementation of best practices.
• Experience with EdTech domain
