Job Description

Relay, a Raleigh-based product company, is hiring for a Data Scientist in our Product Engineering team. This is a high-impact role within the organization with visibility across leadership and stakeholders, and will be directly involved with shaping the product itself as a result of analyses and insights. This is a great opportunity to build or sharpen the skill set that makes Data Science a unique field because it combines analysis with programming and most importantly business outcomes. Here at Relay, we're looking to change the way we communicate. We've designed, built, and launched an entirely new product category -- a simple, rugged, internet-enabled smart device and all the software that runs it -- that is disrupting the handheld radio industry for B2B enterprise clients and non-desk workers (hospitality, healthcare, education, golf, parks, sports, and more!)This isn't your run-of-the-mill VoIP app; we've achieved proven product-market fit with a user experience that solves real-world customer pain and unlocks new capabilities for them through our robust API Platform.Relay has experienced exponential growth over the past several years, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment is a must.We work in a hybrid model with flexibility and are based in Raleigh, NC at North Hills. What will you be doing as a Data Scientist?
  • Work with developers and product managers to define metrics to collect for new or existing features across our custom hardware, Android, iOS, and browser endpoints to understand product usage and health.
  • Utilize the collected data to generate, track, and share key insights that constantly improve our products and user experience.
  • Use machine learning techniques when appropriate to enhance insights.
  • Empower other teams to use data to make informed decisions; develop internal tools that help our Product, Operations, and customer-facing teams self-serve requests and insights from our data.
  • Create and maintain charts and dashboards to share repeatable analyses.
  • Maintain analytics database(s) as needed to ensure queries are efficient and scalable.
  • Standardize usage and health metrics so that the entire organization has a single source of truth.
What would we like you to bring to the table for this role?
  • Strong PostgreSQL knowledge for extracting data and analytical queries; very proficient with joins, aggregations, and window functions
  • Comfortable utilizing Python for analyses and developing applications
  • Experience writing clean, maintainable, well-documented code
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS) and version control (git) a plus
  • Being curious and asking the right questions
  • Problem solver, self-driven, creative, proactive
  • Ability to translate a vague hypothesis into a well-formed analysis, from extracting the right data, to a valid statistical analysis including limitations and requirements for future data
  • Good time management; a fast, decent, and maintainable solution is often far better than a slow, perfect, complex solution
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM related discipline

We have a culture where we empower our Relayers to do the best work in their lives. We call this idea BWIML (best work in my life). It's truly amazing what happy, engaged team members can achieve. Our ever evolving list of benefits means you'll be able to achieve work/life balance, stay healthy, perform impactful work, grow in your role, look after yourself, those who depend on you, and invest in your future.

At Relay, we offer...

  • 401(K) Savings Plan + Company Match
  • Baby Cash Reward + Paid Parental Leave
