We are seeking a Data Scientist to join our team at the Nissan North Americas Headquarters in Franklin, TN.

Job Summary

Data Scientist Aftersales Business Intelligence provides complex data and predictive analytics solutions to identify and address opportunities for business expansion and optimization of marketing and incentive decisions. In particular, the Data Scientist will be responsible for extracting relevant data, modeling business processes, discovering business insights, and identifying opportunities through the use of in-depth statistical, algorithmic, data mining and advanced visualization techniques.

Job Functions

1. Utilizes expertise in statistical and machine learning methods using tools such as R and proficiency in big data infrastructures such as Hadoop to perform tasks related to all aspects of model development, including data extraction/data load, data cleansing, predictive analysis and model build.

2. Identifies what data is available and relevant, including internal and external data sources, while leveraging new data collection and analysis processes. Collaborates with internal and external SME's to select relevant sources of information, and engages with the Sales & Marketing Analytics team, M&S functions and IS to elicit, document, analyze and validate analytics solution objectives and requirements.

3. Develops experimental design approaches to validate findings or test hypotheses. Provides on-going tracking and monitoring of performance of decision systems and statistical models.

4. Researches through analysis of data from various internal and external sources in order to identify opportunities for new services/products that contribute to FMI (Fixed Marketing Investments), VME (Variable Marketing Expenditures), Inventory Mix and Sales Performance. Implements IT solutions for projects, ongoing solutions, and business expansion by providing proof of concept business cases to internal clients.

5. Provides expert advice and recommendations to colleagues and Nissan leadership. Clearly and transparently communicates the status of current projects, new possible opportunities, and roadblocks to success to departmental leadership. Further serves as educator/consultant to greater Nissan on advanced methods.

6. Partners with team members to ensure that all information used is in compliance with the regulatory and security policies in place.

7. Evaluates and improves system operations by conducting systems analysis. Recommends changes in policies and procedures. Protects operations by keeping information confidential. Assesses actual results versus targets and applies countermeasures as necessary. Understands and applies decision making and problem solving techniques.

8. Interfaces with all levels of management to gain insight to the different functional needs, sometimes drawing out issues and value creation ideas poorly communicated by stakeholders. Acts as key liaison with key academics, consultants, and suppliers who are occasionally leveraged for subject matter expertise.

9. As necessary, performs other related duties of which the above are representative.

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualification statements reflect the minimum skills and abilities required of the qualified applicant.

1. Job Knowledge and Skills:

Ability to find solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging large unstructured datasets. Advanced knowledge of statistical and machine learning methods required. High proficiency in statistical analysis, quantitative analytics, forecasting/predictive analytics, multivariate testing, and optimization algorithms. Strong communication and interpersonal skills desired. Must possess ability to synthesize data, uncover inherent trends in the data, make recommendations about associated opportunities and implications to business performance, & communicate findings & recommendations to a variety of audiences.

2. Experience:

At least 6 years of relevant experience in Big Data management, quantitative and qualitative research and analytics experience. Experience in business needs assessments, prioritization techniques, and business case development desired. Prior automotive experience a plus.

3. Supervisory Experience:

None required. Project leadership experience preferred.

4. Education:

B.S. degree in applied mathematics, statistics, computer science or related field; Master's degree preferred.

5. Computer Skills:

Advanced knowledge of databases including cloud, mainframe, data warehouse tools/techniques and visualization tools. Advanced knowledge and prior use of R, Hadoop, and Tableau. Thorough knowledge of word processor, spreadsheet, other PC applications, as well as Internet & mainframe applications to create specialized applications or products of a highly technical nature.
