Data Scientist II
Job Description
Who You Are
We’re looking to add a Data Scientist II to our real-time analytics and machine learning team. This team is on a mission to explore the wealth of voice data available, seeking insights that may lead to new and powerful business applications. Like the data we’re analyzing, the work is unstructured, and the solutions aren’t always clear.
Â
- You thrive on bringing definition to big, undefined problems.
- You’re comfortable with open-source languages and are passionate about developing further.
- You have hands-on experience developing data science solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms.
- You have the skills to retrieve, combine, and analyze data from a variety of sources and structures.
As a Data Scientist, you’ll be analyzing and experimenting with multimodal data to find patterns in system or user behavior that can be used to inform business actions. For example, you will be involved in the acoustic analysis of customer interactions to uncover patterns of conversational dynamics in a call center. You’ll then develop prototype applications that recognize these patterns to generate real-time event data that can be channeled into user applications. Â

What You'll Do:
- Partner with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to reveal the insights hidden within huge volumes of speech data.
- Provide oversight for creating, configuring and optimizing speech technologies for Vail voice user experiences, including speech recognition, voice biometrics, chatbot, speech synthesis engines, and large language models (LLMs).
- Interact with clients to deliver talks, webinars, and highlight the work of the team.
- Build machine learning models through all phases of development, from concept to design, training, evaluation, validation, and productization.
- Harness your expertise in Natural Language Processing (NLP) to evolve customer experiences to best-in-class.
- Lead the effort to create grammars, dictionaries, acoustic models, and language models that underpin Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR) technology.
- Contribute to the team’s growing body of peer-reviewed papers (https://www.freeclimb.com/research/).
Qualifications - We encourage you to apply if you think your experience may be a match, even if you do not meet all of the qualifications.
- Ph.D. or M.S. in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Human Computer Interaction, Natural Language Processing, Computational Linguistics or a related field.
- 4+ year experience with machine learning and natural language processing.
- Strong verbal and writing communication skills.
- Ability to independently execute a research agenda and collaborate effectively with other researchers and engineers.
- Ability to translate research ideas into product concepts.
- Experience with deep learning platforms, such as PyTorch, Tensor Flow, CNTK, specifically as they relate to the implementation of state-of-the-art deep learning models (including, but not limited to transformer-based models).
- Existing body of relevant research contributions, such as peer-reviewed publications at top-tier conferences and journals related to ML/NLP.
