Department Overview

Military and commercial aviation industries are complex and increasingly data-driven. Today's aircraft and engines have a multitude of sensors creating a myriad of data elements from which predictive inferences are made. We are in a unique position as the only group in Military Engines that has the expertise, to the level of the finest internal details, to distill massive datasets into actionable information to support mission critical operations.

We create predictive intelligence providing our customers with the ability to take meaningful action and make critical decisions enhancing mission readiness of our Nation and allies. Our analysts have the expertise to create custom analytical models based on specific customer requirements and needs, including agent-based simulation, hybrid discrete-continuous simulation and stochastic optimization in addition to standard a la carte options. Our primary strategic initiative is to develop total customer agency through simple human interfaces, scalable technology, decision analytics, and adaptive forecasting models to provide scenario-based decision-making and evaluation of alternatives in real-time.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead initiatives on a cross-functional team to deliver forecasting and predictive analytic results to the military engines program offices. Work with our ED&F team to execute simulation models of jet engine utilization and logistics support processes.
  • Work closely with primary stakeholders and customers to foster a collaborative environment when understanding fleet data inputs, how the fleet is currently running in the field, and analyzing forecasting model outputs.
  • Work directly with our internal customers to understand the problems they face, and how behavioral insights can be used to help them. Help our customers develop an intuition as to how our models work and how our insights will deliver better outcomes for them.
  • Retrieve, synthesize, and present critical data in a format that is immediately useful to answering specific questions or improving system performance. Analyze historical data to identify trends and support optimal decision making.
  • Utilizing Agile methodologies, be a forecasting product owner to adjust and prioritize the backlog of modeling features/inputs and communicate team priorities to customers and stakeholders.
  • Develop AI (artificial intelligence) solutions in a cloud environment for real-time use and deployment.
  • Develop and ideate new Data Science opportunities from customer data that can be transitioned into our product development and Data Science teams
  • Conduct written and verbal presentations to share insights to audiences of varying levels of technical sophistication.
  • Lead Transformation initiatives for the ED&F group from ideation (idea creation) to execution. Manage and execute Transformation projects.
  • Lead CORE continuous improvement initiatives for the ED&F group

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science with at least 8 years' experience or advanced degree with 5 years of experience
  • Knowledge and experience of building and evaluating machine learning models in areas such as clustering, natural language processing and predicting customer actions
  • Experience with data discovery and feature evaluation for inclusion in machine learning models
  • Experience working with internal and external business stakeholders to understand data inputs and strong ability to translate outcomes for technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proficiency in creating machine learning features and models using contemporary Python packages
  • Technical knowledge of AWS (S3, EMR) or Azure cloud concepts including orchestration, containerization, software supply chain and cloud based microservices platforms
  • Experience with scripting languages, including Python and R, SPSS, and/or using packages used in machine learning applications or advanced data analytics.
  • Expertise with scientific programming in python, and C++.
  • Strong analytical, project management, problem-solving, interpersonal, leadership skills.
  • Dynamic problem solver with the ability to craft solutions to everyday challenges with creative new ideas.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, team environment.
  • Ability to work independently and work with limited direction to accomplish project goals.
  • Self-starter with willingness to take initiative, support strategic priorities, take ownership of assigned projects/initiatives and contribute to results and ability to work with a minimum supervision.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and solid track record of teamwork, adaptability, innovation, and initiative.
  • Outstanding formal and informal presentation skills.
  • U.S. Citizen due to military engines contract work

Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineer, or related engineering field
  • Additional skills in programming is a plus
