Database Administrator - Entry Level

As a database engineer, your work will be the backbone of our data management strategy. You will shape the way we collect, store and analyze data, enabling informed decision-making that drives business success.

As you design and implement innovative data solutions, you will make your mark on the future of our data environment as we explore moving our on-premises databases to the cloud. With that, you will be part of creating a data architecture that is flexible and scalable, adapting to our changing needs into the future.

In this role, you will work closely with our Business Intelligence team and key stakeholders company-wide, including developers, business analysts and executives. You will also collaborate with teams across many functions, nurturing yourself and the company to continue growing.

Essential Functions:

• Assist in designing, building and maintaining highly scalable and performance-oriented databases.
• Participate in database design and architecture to support application development projects.
• Perform regular database management tasks such as updates, migrations and index maintenance.
• Contribute to the development and optimization of SQL queries and scripts.
• Ensure the data integrity, security and performance of the databases.
• Assist in identifying and troubleshooting database issues such as performance bottlenecks, data inconsistencies and security vulnerabilities.
• Participate in the creation of new data extraction, transformation and loading (ETL) processes.
• Collaborate with team members to develop and implement data improvements and innovations.
• Stay current with emerging database technologies and techniques.

Location: This position is open to remote or hybrid candidates, but preference will be given to candidates able to work in our Wooster, Ohio, office.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position is not responsible for the supervision of staff.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Education/Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

• Associate's degree or higher in computer science
• Experience working with database technologies either in an academic or professional environment
• Equivalent combination of education and experience
• Agriculture experience or participation in youth organizations (4-H, FFA, etc.) is a plus

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to think analytically and apply it to solve real-world challenges
• Take initiative to advance projects and provide quality solutions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Attention to detail and desire to solve problems the best way
• Familiarity with the basic principles of distributed computing and database systems
• Understanding of SQL and relational database management systems (RDBMS), like Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL or PostgreSQL
• Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding
• Knowledge of NoSQL databases, such as MongoDB, is a plus
