Database Administrator - Principal
Job Description
About: We are seeking an experienced Principal SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) with deep expertise in on‑premises SQL Server PowerShell automation Azure IaaS and cloud migration. This role is responsible for ensuring the performance security and availability of SQL Server platforms supporting multiple products and services. You will serve as a thought leader influencing stakeholders driving best practices and shaping the SQL Server and database infrastructure roadmap.
What you’ll be doing:

Install configure upgrade and manage SQL Server instances across on‑premises and Azure IaaS environments.

Create maintain and optimize database objects while ensuring high availability security backup and disaster recovery readiness.

Monitor analyze and tune database and server performance; troubleshoot and resolve complex issues.
-
Develop and execute cloud migration strategies including assessment planning coordination validation and post‑migration testing.
-
Deploy and manage SQL Server workloads in Azure IaaS leveraging Azure services for performance monitoring and integration.
-
Design and implement PowerShell‑based automation for routine and complex database administration tasks.
-
Optimize query performance and server configurations; provide on‑call support during critical incidents and maintenance windows.
-
Mentor and coach team members; lead technical design and implementation initiatives.
-
Represent the team in technical forums and influence the long‑term strategy for SQL Server infrastructure.
What we’ll want you to have:
-
Minimum 8+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA with deep expertise in on‑premises SQL Azure IaaS PowerShell automation and cloud migration.

Strong hands‑on knowledge of SQL Server installation configuration backup and recovery security and performance tuning.
-
Experience with Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance.

Strong understanding of SDLC and CI/CD practices.
-
High proficiency in PowerShell Python or C# for automation and scripting.

Extensive experience with T‑SQL and SQL.

Background in database engineering and/or software engineering.

Proven experience leading small focused technical teams to deliver projects.

Experience using monitoring tools such as SQL Sentry Azure Monitor or similar platforms.

Strong understanding of database performance monitoring and tuning techniques.

Demonstrated success in planning and executing on‑premises to cloud migration initiatives.

Excellent problem‑solving skills with strong big‑picture thinking.

Effective communication and collaboration skills across cross‑functional teams.
-
Ability to work flexible hours based on business priorities.
-
Commitment to delivering work that meets quality security and operability standards.

Availability to support 24x7x365 production‑impacting incidents or key customer events when required.
