Database Engineer - Senior
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Database Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Database Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing efficient data solutions for our large, highly transactional enterprise system. Your primary responsibilities will revolve around designing cloud databases and developing robust Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in enterprise database design, ETL, and cloud technologies.

Domain experience with Federal Government customer organizations and programs is required.
The position is remote but requires location in Eastern or Central U.S. time zones.
Qualified candidates must have or can obtain a Public Trust clearance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and implement cloud database solutions: You will be responsible for architecting and implementing scalable, reliable, and secure cloud database solutions. This includes analyzing data requirements, selecting appropriate database technologies, and designing efficient data models that align with the organization's objectives
- Develop ETL processes: You will design and develop robust ETL processes to extract data from various sources, transform it to meet business needs, and load it into the cloud database. This involves working closely with stakeholders to understand data integration requirements and ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of data transformations
- Optimize data performance: You will fine-tune database performance by optimizing data structures, indexing strategies, and query execution plans. Additionally, you will identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to ensure optimal system performance
- Ensure data integrity and security: You will implement appropriate data governance practices, data quality controls, and security measures to safeguard sensitive information. This includes defining data access controls, encryption mechanisms, and disaster recovery strategies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams: You will work closely with software engineers, data scientists, business analysts, and other stakeholders to understand their data needs and provide them with reliable, consistent, and accessible data solutions. Effective communication and collaboration skills are essential
- Collaborate with customers, stakeholder and development teams and conduct technology assessments
- Operate across organizational and computing “silos” to drive common approaches and expose information assets and processes across the organization
- Define and implement data architecture for diverse business processes, projects, and function
- Provide technical support and training of an organization’s IT personnel to ensure high level of business performance
- Ensure proper documentation of data design and developing processes in order to produce appropriate procedures for application use
- Design databases according to specific architectural design to improve overall system performance
REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience in enterprise database design and optimization, including data modeling, schema design, and performance tuning.
- Strong expertise in ETL development, data integration, and transformation processes.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, including database services like Amazon RDS, Azure SQL Database, or Google Cloud SQL.
- In-depth knowledge of relational databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) and proficiency in SQL programming.
- Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a plus.
- Understanding of data governance, data security, and compliance requirements.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to analyze complex data scenarios and provide effective solutions.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be able to obtain a Public Trust clearance
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, business, management, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 10+ years of professional experience; or 8+ years of professional experience with a related Master’s degree.
- 5+ years of experience in related fields
- Broad IT industry knowledge, deep expertise in one or more technical areas: User experience, SOA, microservices, enterprise service bus, database design, access and identity management, high availability infrastructure, Cloud, DevSecOps etc.
- Exemplary oral, written, interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
- Able to produce results within a collaborative environment
- Highly organized and deadline-driven; able to multitask
- Interested in working as part of a small and growing company, with awareness about the opportunities and challenges that come with a highly adaptive environment
