VIP's onsite daycare is seeking a reliable, passionate, hands-on Daycare Director to lead our staff of 20+ childcare providers. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching in an early childhood setting with ages 3-5, and is able to work well with a dedicated team, foster a positive learning environment, design age-appropriate curriculum, and communicate effectively with families.

For over 30 years the Roots Daycare has been nurturing infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in Colchester, VT. We are a private center, housed within the company campus of Vermont Information Processing and currently attended by 50+ children of the employees of VIP. It is our mission to provide each child with a high-quality, educational, play-based program that will foster their individual creativity and curiosity. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day functions and supervise all staff members
  • Hire and train new staff members
  • Manage classroom schedules, attendance and waitlists along with the Assistant Director
  • Support teachers in providing enrichment for children's social, physical, and academic development within our program.Ā 
  • Ā Assure consistent compliance with all State of Vermont Center Based Child Care regulations, including coordination of annual licensing, maintenance of emergency evacuation planning, health and other inspections, and maintenance of files according to state requirements.
  • Collaborate with lead teachers to supervise, guide and encourage children's learning and development
  • Communicate with parents regularly on their child’s daily progress and well as relevant updates to the center’s schedule, policies and practices.Ā 
  • Maintain a clean and tidy classroom consistent with health and safety standards
  • Provide performance reviews and professional development opportunities to staff
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 5 years of relevant childcare experience (preferably with children under age 5)
  • High School Diploma or GED (Associate Degree with a major in Early Childhood, Child or Human Development, Elementary Education or Child & Family Services is preferred)
  • Qualified as a Teacher Associate as defined by the State of Vermont's Child Development Division. Either:
    • A Vermont Early Childhood and Afterschool Program Director Step (1) Certificate; OR
    • Successful completion of a three (3) college credit course in curriculum, and an additional nine (9) college credits in program management, staff supervision, administration, or human resource management.
  • Excellent knowledge of appropriate practices in early childhood development
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Effective and strong communication skills, written and verbal
  • Willingness to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of the program
  • At least 20 years of age per the State of Vermont’s requirementsĀ 
  • Ability to lift 25-30 lbs
  • Ability to squat, kneel, sit on the floor, see, hear and speak with children and families to ensure the health and safety of each child
